November 15: Belmar Lake + the muskrats
Belated picture post! These are a handful of pics from the day we went on a walk and saw lots of birds and muskrats.
Pretty shot of the mountains. The dark clouds overhead and the bright blue in the distance was pretty neat. And in the middle, you can see snow on the distant mountains.
Probably my favorite of our sightings: a cute little downy woodpecker. We got to watch him for quite a while, hopping up and down the tree.
No horses in this trash can.
Mergansers! The males look so silly with their big black and white heads.
A very overbrightened shot of the woodpecker, but at least you can see him and his bright red head patch, haha.
The first muskrat!
Who then went bloop below the water, haha.
And over on the other side of the lake, this muskrat dove down and chewed off this branch, then hauled it over to the (extremely large) nest. Another muskrat also helped then pull it into place to add to the nest.
