I've seen SO many screenshots of the obvious bots, with their generic profile pics and copy-pasted profiles and comments. The fact that the whole thing is such an engagement grind just... isn't appealing at all to me. I realize that "building a personal brand" and turning everything into a race for views/likes/retweets/etc. is just the way it is, but it just seems miserable.

I will concede that it IS an excellent source of info. I visit a handful of local pages that I'm aware of if I need to find out something that's going on. Especially some sort of active situation - tweets go out a lot faster than local news articles get updated.

The account I have I've literally never posted to, but I do follow several authors I like, (I never really check them, but I like knowing that I could, I guess) because it certainly is the "professional" social media for most writers or other interesting creative types.

(Apparently there are people who *write fic* on twitter? DEAR GOD WHY? How, too, but mostly WHY??)
