Workday + Covid + Snowflake #3

Garbage of a day at work! Terrible snowpacked roads, which made certain types of test impossible. And even after warning people, offering to reschedule at no charge, etc., there were still people who were angry about not passing. Ah well. Heavy day of rescheduling and booking retests and just general exhaustion.

So... tonight may be a real early night, ha. I feel like I could nod off now.

Extra glad we didn't go out on NYE. There was a show that one of my friends opened for, and while I hadn't ever really considered going, I also felt a bit... wistfully sad that we weren't out supporting them.

Welp, he and his girlfriend both have been sick for a couple days, and today tested positive for Covid. (Not definite proof that the show is where it came from, as she could have brought it home from work, but it seems likely that was the source.)
A third friend who I think was out in the last week or so (maybe the same night?) also tested positive today. All have been vaxxed and for the most part have been careful.

The event on NYE required a vax card or a negative test... and yet.

Challenge #3: Talk about AUs

I love AUs, as in that's... about all I write.

The biggest "problem" I have with producing fandom stuff is that when I really enjoy something, I frequently don't feel the need to write fic for it. I'm satisfied with the canon, and don't feel I have anything to add. (*Consuming* fanwork is a different story, ha.)

But there are two types of canon that DO most appeal to me to write for: ones that either have a really interesting setting or lore to throw my own stories into (which is how I feel about Silent Hill), or ones where the canon left me wanting (which is how I feel about Kingdom Hearts.) In the case of Kingdom Hearts, I really enjoy the main trio of characters from the main series game. I like the dynamics between them... and the lore of the games become such a hot damn mess that it's infamously, ridiculously hard to follow. And it feels like the main plot keeps doing my faves dirty.

So in that case... AUs are great! I get to play with my favorite characters and the relationships between them in endless new settings, and throw out all the nonsense from the canon that I don't enjoy or want to deal with!

(I keep hoping for a new fandom to bite me and get me interested in writing for it, but I keep *liking* things too much.)
