June 15th - Denver Zoo (Part 2)

Part two of the promised zoo pics!

These are the pictures from two of the buildings: The "Village Hall" and "Tropical Discovery."

We had actually never been inside the Village Hall building before. I know we've passed it, but for some reason I was under the impression it was one of the food vendors rather than exhibits? It is also possible it was closed on some previous visits, as one of the now-lifted Covid precautions was a one-way path through the grounds.

Golden frog in Tropical Discovery - my favorite of this batch of pictures.
Though these guys are labeled as possibly one of the most endangered frog species in the world. (The ones here are captive bred.)

Glad we discovered this whole building we'd never been through before!

This tiny turtle was SO CUTE.

Fishing cat! This animal in particular was one I was wondering where to see, lol.

So there's this nice sign about the river otters... "What do you see them doing today?"

So, uh... this is what the otters were doing. Not sure if it's completely obvious, but they are doing their part to propagate the species. Or as a group of kids said: "Look, they're hugging each other!" I look forward to the birth announcement, lol.

Tropical Discovery is still my favorite part of the zoo as a whole. It's where most of the reptiles/amphibians/fish are, along with a few others.

The bat cave! The necessarily low light makes photographing them hard, but I was happy that I got the one in the lower right just as its wings were fully open.

There's also a cave of vampire bats! They look very strange as they walk around, ha. Tasty tasty blood.

Also in the dark area: blind cave fish! (Falmer fish, Alex and I call them.)

Dart frog on glass!

More poison dart frogs, because they're my favorite.

Very nicely posed rattlesnake. Look at the length of that rattle!

The tank of upside-down jellies and fish. (The red one toward the middle looks like it might be making more fish soon.)

Super vibrant blue fish.

Another rattlesnake, this one on the move.

And a final rattlesnake: the same one I took a picture of last time. We were in the building when they shut the lights off to encourage people to head out, and it looked like this guy knew that meant it was dinnertime.

Fishing cat! <3 Thought it would closer to water, but I guess cats just like being high up sometimes.

Well, technically the otters *are* hugging...Plus a little extra movement. ^^;;

The vampire bats have their own blood buffet, how fancy. :D
