I'm definitely all kinds of ready for political ad season to end.

But I also have some serious political feelings. I'm not going to go into them right now, or at least not much. Most people already know them anyway.

But does Romney's "Make America the hope of the world" thing creep the everloving FUCK out of anyone else? I don't know how to exactly express the kind of spine-shuddering grossness that it inspires for me. Maybe it's that it reminds me of the really paternalistic, imperialistic mentality behind manifest destiny and the like. It definitely speaks of the idea that America is "the civilization" where the rest of the world must be comparatively "savage." And that we are Good and the rest of the world should want to be Like Us. It creeps me out to have that kind of "it's our duty to enlighten the rest of the world" rhetoric being preached. I know how incredibly overused 1984 comparisons are when it comes to politics, but it's also disturbingly Big Brother-esque to me. Kind of brainwashing, maybe. "We are wonderful and good. We are what everyone else should want to be. Other places are not good. You should not want to be like them. You must believe that we are perfect, because we are the hope of the world."

I hope that if you're in the US, and are able, that you vote tomorrow. (If you haven't already.) I filled out my ballot, and just need to drop it off tomorrow.

I'm pretty terrified for the election results, actually.

Without going into an absolutely colossal rant, about all I can say about this election is that its potential outcome positively terrifies me as well.

Admittedly, this particular Romney soundbite theme thing of his doesn't scare me nearly as much as his lack of transparency about ANYTHING, his views on women, the poor, the rich, his ever conveniently shifting political platform, his unfuckingbelievably backwards views on foreign policy, etc, but it's definitely heavily tainted with the same arrogance he regards everything and everyone "beneath him".

Jason and I have already voted/submitted our mail-in ballots though... I cannot recall a single election in my lifetime more frightening and genuinely "sinking gut" feeling as this one at any rate... :/

Yeeesss. Yes, yes, yes.

TBH it creeps me out that Obama's called us 'the best country in the world' and etc. as well, whether it's because he believes that or has to pay lip service to it to not lose votes. But that from Romney was...way worse.

I feel like Mitt Romney is a very dishonest person and his constant shifting of positions reflects that.

It's all good, though because Obama won tonight. We can breathe a sign of relief.

Also, as a resident of Florida, I am glad we didn't fuck up this election.

I spammed by own facebook page with stuff like VOTE, GODDAMMIT! or something to that effect....
Glad it's over. Glad the President got re-elected.
:)

And, while we're not the greatest country in the world, I do think we should aspire to be. And, I hate political ads. :)

good to see a post from you, hope you're doing well!
