Greenbelt Nature Walk - again!
Yesterday vanished to a frustrating errand to pick something up in a store a good hour away that Alex got a delivery notice for... only for them to basically say "idk, it probably just made it to the central warehouse and they sent you the pickup notice too soon. Come back in a day or two?" We called this morning, and they still couldn't find it. Bleh. Alex will probably go up later in the week.
Today we did still have some errands to run, but wanted to do *something* with the day. We've been gifted with nice weather and warm temperatures as we stretch into October, and it would be a shame not to take advantage. We got off to a late enough start that any of the mountain destinations would probably be pushing it.
After weighing a few options, we decided on the greenbelt. It's fairly close, the dog could come with, there's water to wade in if he started getting hot, (and it would let us also go see a movie later on cheap day at the theater.)

The bike path bridge.

Duck showing off her pretty purple wing band, and some nice reflections on the water.

Obligatory picture of the creek. It was very peaceful and pretty.

I don't recall noticing it before, but this tree definitely looks like a beaver got to it, though pretty long ago by the look of it. (The tree is still alive and doing well.) I have noticed some of the trees near the path have chicken wire around the bases. I'd vaguely wondered what it was for, and sort of assumed it was just to try and protect them from some unspecified damage. Now I'm thinking this could be why. (Though I have not ever seen beavers in the creek, and wouldn't have expected to see them this far down!)

A nice red vine. We don't get a lot of the oranges and reds for our fall colors - mostly we have cottonwoods and aspen, which are both gold.

Another nice clear day (barely any haze), so we can see the mountains. There's also a teeny speck of a soaring hawk, ha.

We saw a frog, too! On Taylor's birthday, I was the one who spotted the frog of the day, but this time Alex was the one to find it. It was a few yards away from where we saw the first one. :)

I love milkweed, and I think the seeds look really cool when they start to burst from the pods.

A tree, nicely showing off its color change.

Cy, wading in the creek.

A stand of lovely gold trees, against the so-blue sky.

Prairie dog! They have a large colony along the path, and they scream at Cy as he walks by. He... doesn't seem to care, ha.

Bright sun and color change.

And then, close to the end of the walk back, I just about stumbled over a mantis in the pathway! This is the first one I've seen this year, and the biggest I've seen in a couple years! Alex was afraid I was about to get pinched picking it up, but I didn't want it to stay on the path. No pinches - it mellowed out running over my hands for a minute or two, and then I let it go in the grass, where it blended in extremely well!

Oops! By the time I looked at all the pics I forgot everything else, lol! I also meant to say, how frustrating that you drove to pick up the package and it wasn't there.

Heh, yeah, that was pretty annoying. They said it happens a lot, where the people who ordered the stuff get a message to come pick it up, but it's really still in some central facility. If it wasn't for the fact it was an hour-ish away, it wouldn't be that big a deal, but that part is definitely frustrating.
