Halfway through the month of Halloween...
Time to start planning Halloween activities, ha. It's dismaying to me to realize we're halfway through the month.
Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, but I never feel like I do enough to "appreciate" it. (I guess that's a problem with most holidays - there's a lot of lead up, and then it's just... over. Because that's how it works, lol.)
We have had a nice fall, and I have been appreciating THAT, even as the last few days have been unpleasantly chilly.
But I'd like to go to the corn maze this year. Unfortunately, the place we've gone over the years has changed their format a bit - it used to be that there were two mazes, plus a non-maze linear path outdoor haunted "house." The first maze was never haunted, the second one was "haunted" after dusk, in that it had costumed actors wandering through the maze with you, jumping out from behind corners, or rustling the corn, haha. Then there was the true "haunt" section, which is a linear path through the corn that goes through several haunted-house style scare sections. Doing all three was a lot of fun, and made it kind of an all-day thing.
Now there are the two mazes, but neither are haunted, and they close at dusk. The haunt is completely separate, opening at dark, and the sections require separate tickets. :/ Also, the haunted part is only on Fridays and Saturdays, which does not sync up well with my work schedule.
But going to the corn maze was Alex's and my first real date, haha. We started long-distance dating on the fourth of July, but then he came out and visited me for the first time in October, and I took him to the corn maze. We haven't gone every year since, as some years we couldn't afford it, and last year we decided it probably wasn't a good idea due to Covid.
With it not syncing up well with my schedule, I may ask my manager if I can take a half-day on one of the two weekdays (both next week) that they're additionally open. Otherwise, we'd either have to do it tomorrow or on the day before Halloween, since at least I'm out of work at 5 on Saturday, which gives us enough time to get up there before last admission. Tomorrow feels too soon, and the day before Halloween sounds Crowded As Hell.
Halloween is on a Sunday, which is one of the usual goth nights, so I sort of assume they'll be doing some sort of Halloween club night. We did the one club thing (that wound up sort of sucking) a few months ago, but nothing since. But most of the clubs in Denver (or at least the ones that cater to my crowd) have started requiring proof of vax or a negative test, which is at least one extra layer of protection. And I'd still wear my mask probably, lol. I'll have to look more into that.
I also need to watch Over the Garden Wall, which is one of my personal fall/Halloween traditions.
And maybe carve a pumpkin.
More trips through the neighborhoods to see decorations.

I'm glad you set some plans early! And are working on them!
October isn't over yet.
