October 18 - Denver Zoo (Part 1)
Splitting zoo pics into two posts. :) No themes to the posts, just mostly chronological order for the pathway we took.

The zoo is very festive at the moment, with pumpkins everywhere. I like how many colors they have, arranged in different patterns (This one says "Boo"). There are also lots of jack-o-lantern displays, and some faces in trees and such. They do a couple "Boo at the Zoo" events, though I've never gone to them.

A lorikeet, up in some lovely fall foliage, also looking quite festive.
We did get to walk through the lorikeet exhibit, which we often miss the timing for! (Though they were done feeding for that timeslot, so the birds were mostly napping, haha.)
There was minor internet wank a couple years ago when the Denver Zoo tweeted about a same-sex bonded pair of lorikeets they have, haha.

Wild dogs, all snoozing in the sun. I especially like the one on the left, in the tub.

Mountain goat!

Lounging lemurs! Not sure I've ever gotten such a good look at them - they're usually either napping on a platform, or roaming at speed.

Orangutan! It looked like they have some stuff on that door to interact with - PVC tubes with an opening that they can stick branches into, and get some kind of food. This was the second one to come over and play with it.

I think this young mandrill is the one that we saw as an itty bitty baby last time! She's definitely grown, but she was SO playful, she has to be young. She was running and swinging and jumping, and kept coming up to the glass, and pressing her hands against it, like she was very interested in interacting with the people on the other side. She also loved that purple toy that she was carrying around.

A pair of cranes!

Kangaroo fight! (Not really much of a fight, just a quick boxing scuffle.)

And a gibbon! This was the female. This is the first time I've ever seen them actually using the ropes to get between the various areas they have access to. She was very active, climbing up and down one of the trees on her island, and then back up to the ropes.
The highlight of the visit was definitely how active a lot of the animals we got to see were. There were still ones napping, of course, or who'd opted to be in their "out-of-view" areas (as most animals have a choice to go somewhere not on exhibit.) But the weather was just about perfect for walking through AND for all the animals.

Fall outings are definitely my favorite! We've been spoiled this year by having a really nice long fall.
