"Pelican Pond" (no pelicans)

(Island Territory will get posted tomorrow - I made a cover for it that I'm pretty happy with, but it got a bit late.)

Today we both slept in way later than we usually would. (I did wake up at 4, and went back to sleep around 6, but still.) We had some errands to run, but today was almost 80°, so we definitely wanted to do something outside. We settled on "Pelican Pond", though there weren't any pelicans today.

It was a very nice walk! The weather was beautiful, and the air started off better than it's been for a while. Some new scunge moved in later, but at least during our walk it was nice!

Cy, going for a wade.

We also saw a small group of wood ducks. They're some of my favorites, especially the males with how flashy they are. I'm guessing this was a family group - there was the one male, and one pretty heavily marked female, and the others looked like maybe juvenile females?

Some yucca and some nice bright colors. At least some of the color is from the wild roses, which also had lots of rosehips.

Today there were a bunch of coots out on the lake! Often we may see a couple, but today there were tons scattered all around the reservoir.

Some very nice prickly pear cacti, fruiting.

Nice reflection of the fall colors.

Turtle!

We saw a few others sunning on branches near shore, but they all splooshed down and swam away as soon as we got close. This one was brave enough to come back! The rest just lurked a ways out, drifting around with their heads up like periscopes.

The same turtle, framed by some colorful leaves.

And one more of the wood ducks. :)

ha. It was 32 when I got up this morning. My lawn mower broke and the part won't be here until Tuesday. I have more leaves than I know what to do with. My mower was given to me by a friend who didn't need it anymore. It's 15 years old. I was just going to buy another one, but good luck finding them! Between the switch-over season (pretty much only snow-blowers available now) and the supply-chain issues, there are none to be found.

Luckily we have no snow in the forecast for the foreseeable future.

lol getting the part (transaxel) and successfully installing it are mutually exclusive. I'll see how that goes.
