Day 6 of NaNo + the illness report

New day, same sick. The cough is worse and makes the throat worse, too. I still can't swallow anything without pain, though stuff like hot oatmeal feels all right while I'm swallowing it. Unfortunately, the idea of eating much in the way of food is kind of revolting.

My voice is almost completely gone, and I have a very narrow vocal range where I can speak - the worst kinda-teenager-hitting-puberty range. And talking makes the coughing worse.

The fever seemed like less of a problem today, but it was definitely still present. Still in the low 99s (with the caveat still that I think the thermometer runs a bit low.)

I went in to work, but left after a half day. Online support person #2 is out again all weekend, so I had to ask online support person #3 to take calls for the second half of the day (it's her day off), and had to punt on the "customer care" stuff as well. I'm sorry to have to do that, but *shrug*, I felt like shit.

(I probably could have toughed it out, but I'm glad I didn't try. I'll see if I can stick out the whole day tomorrow since after that is my 'weekend' anyway, but we'll see.)

When Alex came to pick me up he told me I was frighteningly pale. I told him it's just my gothic pallor, but... eesh, I do look pretty bad, lol.

I took a brief nap, though the coughing interrupted it a lot. It also gets worse when I lay down, which isn't great.

NaNo day 6 - 1795 words. Less of a struggle, but part of the story I already was pretty sure of.

That sounds completely miserable. I'm sorry.

Big suggestion on food, as this was one of the things my sister's late BFF had brought me one time when I had strep. Canned peaches and canned mandarin oranges. Even put them in the fridge first. It's easy to swallow, it's not unhealthy, and the cool/cold will help swallowing, too. Beats jello any day and gives a break from soup/broth/hot things.

I hope you feel better soon. They need to quit making you work through this, the assholes.

Good luck with that! When I used to get sick, I had to eat a lot of bland canned soup and Jello. I honestly got to the point I couldn't stand Jello at all, and with few exceptions that my sister and I have found lately, I hate canned soup because of all of that in the past. I was in my late 20s/early 30s the last time I got strep and Susy (Kathy's late BFF) brought over the canned peaches and mandarin oranges and said to put them into the fridge before eating them. They'd be substance in my stomach, they'd have vitamins to them (esp C), and they'd be easy to swallow.

I don't blame you for being tired of being sick! I hope you get better soon, and you should totally get plenty of time to rest because that'll make you feel better.

I like soup, too, but not really most of the canned soups anymore. Kathy and I have found some gourmet type soups from Campbell's we like as well as tomato soup, and she still craves vegetable soup when she feels like shit, but I can't do it anymore because of all that canned soup I ate when I was younger. I like ramen now in place of that. The noodles aren't as squishy.

You're welcome! I hope they help out and don't make you feel bleh. 8 days is a long time to go through this shit, but part of that is not getting several days to just sleep and rest.
