Miscellany

Today was *super fun* - one person failed a test and both the tester and my new manager were afraid he was going to take a swing at one of them. So that was cool. The manager took him outside, and then had to walk halfway down the complex because he was shouting so loud.

The rest of the day just felt really hectic and stressful, even though most of the shit that was happening wasn't happening to me, just around me.

Alex had a doctor's appointment again. He still hasn't been able to get the CT his doctor ordered last week. She called the hospital, and they said they'd need a new referral, despite the fact that the referral was sent less than a week ago. She sent the new referral... and still no one has heard anything.

But while she hasn't offered what she thinks *is* wrong and causing the pain in his stomach, she said she doesn't think it's an ulcer. So that's... maybe concerning. Maybe it's the internet acquaintance I have prepping for their own cancer treatment, but that's the scary place my brain goes. So uh, hoping it isn't that either.

His blood work is basically perfect, and everything else seems great, but... I'm still worried.

Alex is currently horse/chicken sitting for the woman he was doing yard/barn work for a few months ago. It's nice, because she pays well, and it's stuff he's fine with doing. Feeding/watering/cleaning up after the horses, feeding the chickens.

But he got a text today asking why he hadn't been there yesterday or today, because he's supposed to go twice a day... And he has. He has gone over every morning and evening.

Turns out her security system isn't working - it should give her an alert when someone comes onto the property, but it only registered Alex (and me) on Tuesday. She can see that the horses have been moved (only one gets turned out at a time), but she's gotten no alerts. Tonight he actively tried to trigger the camera, and it wasn't working.

They had someone steal the catalytic converter from their truck while it was outside their house a few weeks ago, and the security system didn't work then either, so she's pretty pissed.

Taylor texted me to tell me that our mom is having a really hard time at work. :/ She works for the same company I do, but in the corporate office. But according to Taylor, she's coming home nearly in tears every night, which is awful. I don't know what to do for her, but feel like I should do something. I'll text or call her tomorrow. I know she's just counting down the months/weeks/days to retirement, but I hate that she's unhappy.

I, uh, still haven't gotten back to writing. I got reoriented in Connections of the Heart, but just don't have the attention span for it tonight. (That is absolutely an excuse.) Maybe tomorrow!

Wow, that all sounds miserable. I hope tomorrow goes better at least!

Many many hugs to Alex and your mom. All of that is horrible. The health system in this country is appalling, and I don't see it improving any time soon, especially since the conservatives aren't dying fast enough to make things better. I really hope he gets his CT soon and that your mom can retire sooner rather than later.

That does sound like a stressful day! I totally understand why having that happen around you affects you, too.

I hope Alex gets his CT scan soon!

That's weird about the security and the theft. (I only recently learned that catalytic converters are worth money. Pip's been taking them off junk cars and selling them.)

I'm sorry your mom is having a rough time. How long until she retires? (My mom retired nine years ago (?) and she's loving every minute of it.)

I hope you're able to get back to writing.
