First baking thing:
Yule log cookies!
I think next time (next year) I want to try adding more spices - I added a wider variety this time, but only upped the total amount by a little bit. It's still mostly a shortbread flavor, with only slight spice to it. The frosting is really tasty, though, haha.
I do wish they weren't such a pain! Shaping the little branches and frosting them takes so damn long. Half the dough is in the fridge for a future date, because I am TIRED. (Why, oh why, did I decide doubling the recipe was a good idea? I should have remembered how unnecessary that was from last year!)
Making kolaches tomorrow is probably also going to be be A Struggle, because the dough has to chill for two hours. Sobcry, too many late nights, lol.

Unsolicited advice ahead: I don't suppose you could make up the kolache dough today and let it chill overnight? It's the sort of thing we usually do at the bakery where I work.

I wish I'd had a chance to make the kolache dough yesterday, but I just didn't have the energy by the time I was done with the yule log cookies. And while I did make the dough tonight, the plan is to go straight to my mom's after work, so I won't have a chance to bake them tomorrow. So late night #2 it is. BUT that's definitely something I'll keep in mind for next year - if I'd been thinking of it, I would have made the dough(s) on my days off and just waited to bake yesterday/today!

Good luck with the rest of your baking!
(For the rest of the yule log dough, since it won't be for anyone else to see, maybe you can skip the limb and pretend it was already broken off, or something? *g*)

That may be exactly what I do, haha. The little branches make them look better, but if they're just for eatin' and not for lookin', I may skip the tedious bit!
