God I forgot what a masterpiece of batshittery Jupiter Ascending is. That's "masterpiece of batshittery (affectionate)", for sure.

Something randomly reminded me of the beautifully delivered "...I love dogs" line, and then I discovered that Alex did not REMEMBER this ridiculous movie, and it is of course absolutely impossible to describe. Fortunately I found it for $5 in a DVD bin at some point so he's being tormented by the reminder.

This really is like every id-indulgent fantasy story 11-year-old me would have come up with was given way too high a budget, tbh. Delightful.

...Lolwat?

Hadn't heard of this movie before. Is it online/available for streaming anywhere?

I liked the movie. Was it flawed? Absolutely, I'm sure, but like you said, id-indulgent and I think that during these shitty dystopian days, there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting and needing id-indulgent entertainment. I think that's why I'm more interested in reading porny and fluffy MCU fanfiction than a lot of novels that might make me have to think critically (college really fucked up my enjoyment for reading novels and even classics).

I have it on my Plex, but haven't watched it. Snow (ice) Day today from work (which is laughable, since we mostly work from home, but I'll take it.) so maybe I'll watch.

I need to watch that as some point.

In his book on writing, JMS talks about how he tried to point out all the flaws to the Wachowskis sister, but they wouldn't listen. Which is funny because he's most famous for having solo wrote almost all of B5 because he didn't trust other writers enough to let them have input.

I loved B5 when it was on and liked some of his comics (even if I had to explain the ending to people), but his writing book is really... You know that meme of a guy putting on clown make up? Yeah, the book was a little like that.
