God I forgot what a masterpiece of batshittery Jupiter Ascending is. That's "masterpiece of batshittery (affectionate)", for sure.
Something randomly reminded me of the beautifully delivered "...I love dogs" line, and then I discovered that Alex did not REMEMBER this ridiculous movie, and it is of course absolutely impossible to describe. Fortunately I found it for $5 in a DVD bin at some point so he's being tormented by the reminder.
This really is like every id-indulgent fantasy story 11-year-old me would have come up with was given way too high a budget, tbh. Delightful.

Hadn't heard of this movie before. Is it online/available for streaming anywhere?

Ugh, between AP English in high school and the reading I had to do for college, it was a long time before I could go back to reading for fun and enjoyment. (And I wasn't even doing an English degree! Or a Masters, for that matter!) I finally found things that I've deeply enjoyed, but it took a while, and I'm nowhere near the voracious reader I once was. Sometimes I really do just want brain-candy, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

In his book on writing, JMS talks about how he tried to point out all the flaws to the Wachowskis sister, but they wouldn't listen. Which is funny because he's most famous for having solo wrote almost all of B5 because he didn't trust other writers enough to let them have input.

Lol, that seems like some lack of self-awareness. "I don't trust other writers to have input on this... but other people CLEARLY JUST NEED ME TO CRITIQUE THEIR WORK!!"
I get the feeling that the Wachowski sisters are aware of the movie's flaws. I also think that at least half the "flaws" people complain about are more features than bugs.
"It's so indulgent!" Yes, and?
"These fights are silly and just seem to be there to look cool." Sure are, and they do!
"Ugh, why is the love interest... like that?" Because sometimes girls want an angsty genetically engineered space werewolf with wings and eyeliner, duh.
"Why does the main character have to have some new elaborate outfit every other scene?" Because sometimes you want to play dress-up in wildly fancy dresses, and they're all pretty, okay?
