Yeah, there's a definite difference between "just for shock value" which I tend to hate, and "pretty fucked, but like, with a point" which I'm more likely to appreciate to some degree. But I appreciate the warning to be in okay headspace first!
Yeah, there have been plenty of people who use some sort of "method acting" to help them encapsulate a character. And sometimes that seems to really help their performance! But at the point where you start being an utter creep or harassing your coworkers... you should know that's not okay. I'm glad if he realizes that and has apologized. That is the truth though; I know for a fact a few of the "omg, I want to be the Harley to his Joker" types were also "Christian Grey is the perfect boyfriend" types. *Barf*
Yeah, I don't know that I could be okay with paying for D+ with Disney's seeming increasing levels of bullshit. I really honestly hate that they own both Marvel (in terms of MCU) and Star Wars. (Even prior to the recent "supporting shitty politicians" and "systematically refusing progressive content" stuff, their garbage about refusing to pay royalties to SW writers was infuriating enough to make me not want to support any of the new Star Wars stuff, as good as I've heard The Mandalorian was. At the same time, I know I'm feeding the beast by paying for Hulu, and even fandom-wise, KH is all about Disney stuff. (Though I haven't bought media for it in more than a decade, and my fic just... ignores all the Disney, lol.) I do try NOT to let Disney's involvement with things poison my opinions of the works, because there are SO MANY talented people (writers/directors/animators/actors/etc.) who are doing good work... and Disney is such a damn monopoly in the industry, I can't blame them for doing that work under the Disney umbrella. Maybe someday I'll have a computer that can handle torrenting again, and that can remove the moral quandary more completely, lol. (And just in general, I'm very pro-downloading stuff you know you want access to. Especially when companies say they don't plan to ever release things on physical media. Welp, I don't trust always having streaming access, and sometimes I know I want my own copy.)
The ability to fix things is one of the great things about fic, imo. And especially with universes that get huge, and may or may not have a lot of internal consistency, the freedom to say "hey, I hated that plot point, so I'm ignoring it" is fantastic. MCU obviously falls under that category, with wild differences in writers/directors between installments, and consistency of character development and arcs very clearly not being a big priority in some cases. KH does too, because damn that lore got Weird and often Stupid As Hell.
A Transmet reread would probably feel too close to home at this point. I feel like every presidential election since I was in high school (the first time I read it) has reminded me of The Smiler, and it just keeps getting WORSE. How does it keep getting WORSE? A bowel disruptor would at least help, lol
