Third time's the charm...

At least for getting Alex this damn tattoo, lol.

He was supposed to get it on Sunday, and while the roads seemed okay, the artist asked to postpone it. We settled on yesterday.

And then yesterday, as we were grabbing coffee before heading to the shop, the artist texted Alex and said that his car had been stolen and that he had to postpone again.

So we rescheduled for today, and hooray! It actually happened!

After that, we went to see The Batman, because I checked the available seats for the earliest remaining show, and it was a shockingly empty theater. (The later showings were already each at least half full.)

As much as superhero movies don't always appeal to me, I really enjoyed it! I thought it was very well-cast, and the directing/cinematography/music were all fantastic. I thought it did a really good job leaning into the menace inherent in the Batman figure, were such a person to actually be out there... while also having him feel less like a superhero in a lot of ways, as he has missteps and takes hits. It also dealt with the dark noir tone pretty well, striking the right amount of it for me.
(Weirdly one of the things it reminded me of was... Bioshock? I guess just the dark slightly art-deco aesthetic, mixed with the large-scale corruption that just gets worse and worse the deeper you go...)

Yesterday I finished draft 2 of chapter 3 of my current WIP, which puts me at one day ahead of where I'd hoped to be. Better than behind!

Thinking about trying to import my old LJ. I mean, me and plenty of other old or ex-LJ users. While some of the reports of "OMG RUSSIA IS TAKING EVERYTHING OFF THE INTERNET" are certainly exaggerated, it also wouldn't surprise me to have something happen to accounts on there, or for the site to go down in some fashion.

I haven't used LJ in a very long time. I think that before I poked my head back in here in 2018(?) I'd been crossposting (so... 2012-2013ish), but the space on DW had just started to feel friendlier. The changes to LJ bothered me the way they bothered a lot of people. Even pretty far past "strikethrough", it felt hard to trust the site wouldn't do something like that again. And then with Russian ownership, there was a sort of codified homophobia that was hard to ignore. (Not from the userbase, but in site policy and attitude.) Plus the ads. Ugh, the ads.

I'm sure it's an astronomical wait at this point to do the import through DW, but I might see if I can at least get into the queue.

I think I'll probably just import it here. I'd thought about making a new account just to have it serve as an archive and nothing else, but... well, might as well keep it all together. As embarrassing as my high school and early college angst are to me now, lmao.

I imported mine a long time ago, and ended up deleting my LJ account in... what, 2011? 2013? When the servers moved to Russia. I regret it slightly, but I can still access most of the old posts that are on different communities, so it's not too bad. (I do regret losing access to a tiny ficlet I wrote in the comments of a friend's 100% flocked journal; no getting access to that again! At least it was short and probably reasonably easy to recreate.)

I swear I remember there was a tool to just... download your whole LJ as a backup, as well. Might be useful if the queue is too long and/or other coding shenanigans.

Edit: Also that is a fantastic tattoo.

Congrats on good WIP progress!

I deleted my LJ a while back, wish I'd kept a few things, but it was probably for the best. Some of my fandoms would be hit hard if that happened and I needed to post some resources today. I'd been putting it off. Even if March 11 doesn't end access to LJ, it's still better to be prepared, especially since other things and purges could happen. The Russian government isn't get LGBT+ friendly.

Yay for tattoo!!!! It looks really nice!

I want to see the new Batman movie, but like a lot of them, I'll probably wait till I can download it. I'm intrigued by the actors they've chosen in this one. I was pretty blown away by the Gotham series, though, so that's kind of where I'm partial to the Batman franchise. (I just saw a post yesterday where one of the Batman movies with Val Kilmer had Jon Favreau in it; he directed the first two Iron Man movies and was Happy Hogan in them, so I might have to dig that one up and watch it just because; but then he was also in the Ben Affleck Daredevil as Foggy, the lawyer partner, so that makes me laugh, too, for reasons, esp since there's apparently a scene in the newest Spider-Man where he's sitting at the table with Peter, Aunt May, and the Charlie Cox Matt Murdock - but then I'm a bigger Marvel nerd than anything else.)

I transferred all my LJ over to here ages ago. For a while, I was cross-posting and then I went through and did a major purge on LJ because so many posts were nothing but broken quiz links and then a lot of drama bullshit that I just didn't want to keep anymore. Then I just transferred it all over here and deleted my LJ because all it was was Russian porn bots (after they went through and turned all the porn-y fandom stuff into a crime pretty much. No one I really chatted with was still on LJ at that point and were either here or Tumblr or Twitter or all three, so it was just easier to let it go. It felt weird, though, to hit that delete button because it had been such a huge part of my life.

I'll definitely download it. Like I said, I'm intrigued. The last thing I watched RPat in was The Devil All the Time, and honestly, as much as I love all the actors in it, the two who blew me away the most were RPat and Harry Melling (he was cousin Dudley Dursley in the HP movies). Everyone was good in the movie, but holy shit, those two stepped entirely out of anything they've ever been to become these characters, and they were awesome. But since I refuse to watch Twilight, I'd like to see other things with RPat, and Batman/Bruce Wayne is such an iconic role that to see him take it on intrigues me. I'd still like to see the Ben Affleck ones, but I'm slower to watch those. I also want to watch Aquaman for Jason Momoa, but that means I have to watch that lying abuser (Amber Heard), and I'm not entirely jumping for that.

MCU is huge, this is true, but to be fair, the comics are huger. I pretty much watch the movies for the actors because they're what pull me in and the characters I specifically already like-love from the comics, and then I lose myself in the fanfiction. It's less about me getting so involved that I go into full metas like a lot of the other people. I like to be entertained, and where the characters are ones I love, I get more involved in their stories, but when people start into the military industrial complex or criticizing Disney, I just sort of tune out and go back to drooling over Loki and Tony. LOL

Gotham is great, though. If you want to watch it, it's on Netflix. And if by some stroke of luck, you can get access to HBO Max, I recommend Pennyworth, which is a sort of loose prequel to Gotham that follows, specifically, Alfred Pennyworth in 60s England. You get Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane (Bruce Wayne's parents), and it's this weird sort of Mods thing that is fun. You can tell that the creators of Gotham also did Pennyworth because they got an actor who could sound like a younger version of Sean Pertwee's Alfred from Gotham (accent, speech patterns). Anyway, I don't gush much about DC, but I think you'd like Gotham - the mood, the aesthetic. And the villains are absolutely wonderful.

Yeah, it was easy to port over after the purge. Not as much to port. I think I got all my comments; not that there were many. I did meet good people through LJ like you because of my friend from college (you were following her because of her Kingdom Hearts fics) and a few others. But everyone's kind of scattered - mostly to Tumblr and DW but a few are on Twitter, too. One or two are on FB. More than one or two probably. Yeah, if you and I met because of my friend from college, that probably hit around 2005-6, so we're just about 3ish years why of 20 years, you and I.

The Devil All the Time is fucked up but good. I know a lot of people were freaking out on Tumblr and screaming for people to tag any posts with it because there were going to be so many triggering subjects. People getting MAD that the favorite actors (Sebastian Stan and Tom Holland - which were my two 'ins' into the movie even though all the actors were fantastic) DARED to be in such a triggering themed movie, and it's like...uh. It's a job and why don't you grow the hell up? Just know that it's NOT a lighthearted movie. Same as Cherry (also with Tom Holland) if you ever want to see that one. It's good, but it's rough.

Yeah, as a rule, I don't want to throw myself into all the DC movies, but the actors are all good ones (barring Heard), so that's more of why I'm interested in eventually stumbling into them. I watched Birds of Prey, and that one was fun. I wasn't impressed with the second Suicide Squad, even though I like a lot of the actors, and I still want to watch the first one just because so many people want to hate on Jared Leto for it.

Really with the MCU stuff, you don't have to do that, and now it's all going to be on Disney+. They removed all the MCU series from Netflix and put them onto Disney+. I think they have all the movies on there, too. So if you have access to that channel, you can actually watch it all in one place. Honestly, if you ever have questions about any of it, I can do my best to find your answers, but it does tend to make reading the fanfiction a little easier. Though I do tend to cherry pick what I use from canon. One of the things I'm currently writing is an X-Men 3 Fix-It fic. The first part is from a prompt from Scottxlogan (and the pairing is Scott/Logan), and wow, this is going to be me seriously wrecking up a couple of characters. :D

I think you'd love Gotham and Pennyworth because of the aesthetics. The stories are all real good, too, but yeah, the whole mood really grabs you the most.

LOL I know. I read my friend's fics because they were her fics but I didn't understand the characters overall. The ones I read were all pretty much AUs but with the characters, and those were easy to follow. Transmet is still something I love. I haven't done a re-read in ages, though, but I have the actual hardcopies of the trades. I stumbled on all but one at Half Price in San Marcos one time, and then ordered the one they didn't have.

Nearly 20 years. I've reached 20+ with a few other fandom friends. That's longer than I was with Jeff.

I've watched a lot of harsh and fucked up movies that felt like they were just that way for the sake of shock value. The Devil All the Time isn't like that. At least, not to me. This was all story. Every horrible thing was done to serve the story. I'd just say watch it when you're not in an unsettled mood already.

I think Leto's unfortunate choice to do that was based on the way everyone raved and raved about the way Heath Ledger got into the role of Joker. He did a lot of similar stuff, apparently, though not as intensely shitty to others. Leto was trying to emulate him, and it backfired because of the way he chose to do it. I believe he's since apologized to his castmates. And yeah. I mean, a lot of women are always going to see the Joker and Harley as the ideal couple. It's weird, but there are a lot of women who think that's love. They're also usually the ones who think 50 Shades is a romantic story and that Bella and Edward were perfect.

Kas has paid for D+ until like November. I've been watching stuff on it - I watched The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but I also downloaded the first. I need to download BoBF, too. And the Obi-Wan series. I've already downloaded all the MCU series because they've said those won't be put out on DVD or blu-ray ever, and I know I won't always have access to D+ because I imagine Kas won't keep paying for it since they're not too thrilled about Disney's bullshit. I told them they might as well watch stuff since they've already paid up on the service for a while. I've already got Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. downloaded from ages ago, but I need to download the other MCU series that were on Netflix until recently because again, won't always have D+, and I'll want to rewatch those eventually. I have no problem with downloading stuff. I just need to get another portable hard drive or two to fit everything.

A lot of my fics have fix-it features. Hemispheres is my on-going Tony/Loki fic, and it's getting a lot of fix-it bits. Like things that happened in Loki: The Dark World (yes, I know what I did there LOL) suddenly were obliterated in part 2 of Hemispheres, and a lot of the other stuff is either going to be tweaked to be better or will out and out not happen at all. The fic I'm working on right now (the first part of it is what I'm working on - it'll have three parts, I think, each multi-chaptered since this first one is turning out so long) is an X-Men 3 fix-it. Some things that happened are still happening, but they'll happen slightly differently, and I changed the big glaring flaw with the movie, and that becomes the fic's ship.

Oh the stories in Gotham and Pennyworth are good, too. Pennyworth's is WEIRD but it's fun. But the atmosphere is a lot of fun, too.

I feel like reading Transmet would be just like looking out into our world the way it is at this point. Except that I don't have a bowel disruptor, and that makes me sad.

Oh yeah. I'm looking forward to meeting more online friends in the future once we can move out of Texas.
