My mom broke her wrist on Friday. Slipped on the ice behind her house while she was taking the dog for a walk. Fortunately Taylor was there and could get her to urgent care! She broke both her radius and her ulna, and both are broken so far down in the wrist that they couldn't set it, even after trying multiple techniques that all sound a bit like methods of torture. She's booked for surgery this Friday to go in and set the bone—probably plates and screws for both, but they'll see what they think will work best. Ugh, I feel awful for her, because it obviously hurts. And since she is the financial department of the company and this is payroll week, she couldn't even take time off. Alex and I were able to drive her to and from work for the first part of the week, and then another friend can drive her tomorrow, and Taylor is taking Friday off to get her to and from surgery.

Then yesterday Alex slipped on the ice too, and seems to have done something awful to his knee! He had surgery on this knee just over a year ago, to remove torn meniscus that had twisted into the joint, keeping him from being able to straighten the leg. He's now having a similar issue of not being able to straighten the leg. I'm hoping we won't need to make our own urgent care trip, and can't even imagine if it turns out to require surgery again. He's already got a referral for shoulder surgery. I swear, they should do a case study on him, because every joint of his seems to have just imploded in the last several years.

I've felt pretty dead on my feet the last week, just not able to do much of anything besides get to work and then go to bed. I'm not sure I'll manage much more than that tonight, but I'll try to get enough sleep that I'm not worthless all "weekend."

Hope everyone else is experiencing far less ice-related trauma!

We have thankfully not had any ice here. We've had some cold and a little rain last night but no ice.

I hope your mom gets better as quickly as possible and that they give her plenty for the pain. Good luck to Alex with his shoulder and his knee.
