Monday, May 16: a walk at the greenbelt (+ work this week)
Yesterday we went on a short walk along the greenbelt. It was quite warm, so we wanted something easy (for poor, wimpy Cy), and a spot where he could wade was a bonus.
It does look much nicer when everything is leafed out!

The creek itself. The water was very clear!

This crow followed us for a ways down the creek, whether on purpose or coincidentally.

Some interesting bugs. Larva of some kind. Similar to, but possibly not actually caterpillars? Maybe beetle larvae? They had a pretty vibrant iridescence depending on the angle.

Another picture of the crow, not in silhouette.
We'd hoped to see some frogs, but no luck.
Our walk was cut a bit short, because clouds started to roll in, and we got a couple rolls of thunder.

Storm clouds coming in. But wait, what's that, kinda toward the middle?

There, in front of the clouds...

IT'S 16 DAMN PELICANS CIRCLING SLOWLY AND OMINOUSLY ALONG THE FRONT.
TOO MANY PELICANS!
The weather that made us turn around didn't wind up doing much. We got a few raindrops, but that was all.
Stopped by my mom's to pick up a few things we'd left behind - a bag of dog treats, some leftovers in the fridge.

Tomorrow I have to go in way too early to work - two hours early. There's a meeting at corporate for all management, so the rest of us have to go in to cover the phones. I'm dreading it already.
There is vague speculation that there could be Some Big Shit revealed at the meeting? About three weeks to a month ago, the new owner of the company was abruptly announced to have gone on personal leave for a couple weeks, and we were not to contact him under any circumstances. Aaaaand no one has said anything since. He doesn't seem to be back, even as it's getting near a month since that announcement, but nothing else has been said. I hope it's not something BAD, but I do wonder if they'll say anything about... whatever happened/is happening.
And then on Thursday, I have to go to corporate, allegedly to train on new procedures for test grading. That was something I was responsible for pre-Covid, but after lockdown they wanted me back in the field, and hired new people for my corporate job. (Which itself had been a semi-unwanted "promotion" from my previous field position.) But the person who had taken over a portion of that corporate job is leaving.
So... idk, I just feel like it's shady? They won't need the test grading until sometime in the fall, and I'm not sure why I'M the only one being brought in to train on how we do it now. (Maybe they just want the current assistant to do it before he leaves. That would be both the most likely and the least shady explanation, though the meeting is officially with my former boss, not her current assistant.)
Half of me feels like it's a trap - like, I don't think I've done anything fire-able or even write-up-able! And if so, why would they pretend I was going in to train with my old boss!? If anything, my sales have improved the last couple months, at least compared to where I was at before, so I think I'm doing my job *better* by their metrics.
One of my other coworkers (who has also gotten bounced between driving/field/corporate/back to driving/back to field/now a manager) thinks they're planning to move me back to corporate, and she says that my current manager should be worried about losing me as support, haha.
Though that doesn't make a lot of sense either - this is the slow season for the side of the business that I supported at corporate, and just heading into the *busiest* season for the field. Plus our location is one of the fastest-growing, so we genuinely need two people there much of the time.
I'M AN ANXIOUS PERSON. This could be absolutely nothing weird whatsoever, but my brain is spinning off a million reasons I should be worried, lol.

We had scattered thunderstorms on Monday (and Saturday and Sunday). We went out for a walk one time and had to turn around when thunder started booming.
When we were little we lived on a farm that had a creek. We loved to play down there. We turned the roots of the trees into rooms in our little 'houses', lol!
I hope it's nothing ominous at work. If they do give you a 'promotion', I hope more money comes with it!

There've been thunderstorms elsewhere in the state, but not much near us. We got those couple rumbles on our walk, and then it didn't do anything, ha.
Aw, I loved playing near creeks when I was a kid! We didn't have one near us, but went to a nearby lake fairly often, and visited some over the summers. Treating tree roots like houses would absolutely have been exactly what I wanted to do, and would have created hours/days/weeks/months/days of imaginative play.
Same here - hoping it's a big nothing at work. We'll see!
