Welp.
Guess who has ~*Covid*~?
*sigh*
Found out today that we had both a student who was in class all week and a driver I saw yesterday test positive this morning. (Driver thought he had the same crud we had from last week, then his sister tested positive, and he took a test because he saw her on Memorial Day.)
So out of what I hoped was an abundance of caution, I took another test tonight, and it was a very decisive positive.
Not much room for interpretation there.
Alex tested himself again, and he still tested negative. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to isolate in a one-room apartment, so it feels inevitable that he'll get it, too. And I feel awful about that.
I was first exposed to my (sick) manager on Wednesday of last week, and started feeling sick on Saturday. I took my first Covid test on Sunday night, and tested negative. So either that was a false negative, OR I have a flu/covid co-infection. Yaaaaay. That seems more likely, as opposed to testing positive nine days after exposure.
Symptoms-wise, my sore throat is (thankfully) almost gone, the cough has improved from a few days ago but is intermittently productive, and the congestion is much worse today than any day previous. Still no fever (though occasionally my temp seems slightly elevated). No loss of smell or taste, and fingers crossed it stays that way.
CDC guideline is to isolate for 5 days, and then if symptoms are improving, isolation can end, but masks and other precautions should stay in place for an additional 5+ days.
I let my mom know that I won't see her this weekend for her birthday/told Taylor that our hangout has to be postponed again. ;_; I want to see them!
Texted my dad to let him know, too.
I texted and left a voicemail for my manager letting him know that I won't be able to come in for the weekend, but I haven't heard back. I wish he would at least acknowledge that he got my message, so I don't have to worry that I'm expected at work... where I very much will not be. I feel bad that there's stuff left undone - if I'd known, I would have tried to get some more done today. Then again, kinda not my problem. But also, it's considered *our* fault if we don't reach someone to let them know we won't be there, and leaving messages doesn't count as "reaching someone". So I need him to acknowledge it!
I texted and did hear back from the marketing director, since she's the next one up the chain of command for the online support stuff, so she knows I won't be doing that this weekend.
Theoretically, I do have access to additional "Public Health Emergency" paid leave - up to 32 hours, as long as it's Covid-related. So if I take tomorrow + Sunday + Wednesday off, I should be able to use that, and not have to cancel my vacation requests for later in the summer. As long as symptoms have improved. I should be good to return to work on Thursday.
Ugh. I'm annoyed, because I've tried to be careful. I am triple-vaxxed, so as protected as I can be, so I hope it stays at the level of suck I've had the last several days - pretty miserable, but nowhere near "go to the hospital" bad.

At this point, it's probably inevitable that nearly everyone will get it. So many people have given up on wearing masks (because the FB experts tell them it does nothing) and are just spreading it more and more.

I am very hopeful that being triple vaxxed will help keep me from experiencing any severe symptoms. So far it's just deeply unpleasant, but nothing worrying. I does absolutely blow my mind that people are *still* refusing the vaccine.
It does seem nearly unavoidable. I see almost no masks anywhere. I try to wear mine every time I go into a store, but I'm often one of only a couple people wearing them. As soon as the mandates here were lifted, so many places (my workplace included) went straight to "Masks NOT REQUIRED!!!" like we should all be celebrating.
