Pelican Pond
Today we went for a walk to Pelican Pond, where there were indeed pelicans. (4 of them.)
The water is very high - the little island that usually houses some of the birds is completely gone. That did mean that we could walk out on the docks, which were closed off earlier this year because the water was so low.

A pelican!

Cy on the dock.

Ducks! Fairly impressive - mama duck in the front there has five babies into their first adult plumage. (Though they still sounded very peep-y, which was very cute.)
Heading back to the path...

There was a very LOUD cicada - impressively loud for a pretty small one. But so cute - I love them.

A skipper.
We also saw a monarch butterfly! All my pictures came out as "uh, yeah, that orange and black smear is definitely a monarch, I promise." But it was nice to see one! Near milkweeds, even. (Though no signs of caterpillars.)

A sunflower along the path. I liked the way the shadow looks, too.
We also ran into a guy who asked if we'd seen any snakes. We had not, but he said he'd seen four. I'm very jealous!

A chicory flower!

The pelican! (The pelicans were all the way on the opposite side of the lake for most of our walk. After we got back to the truck, one of them came closer to the side we were on, so I went back out. This was just one of the four - the others were farther out.

And zoomed in on the pelican, even though it's not terribly clear. They are so damn big.

Pelicans and swans are always bigger than I expect them to be. Pelicans in particular are also always exactly as cartoonish as I remember them, somehow.

I can imagine; that's adorable!
I love the sunflower and its shadow, too. I'm happy you saw so many sweet natured things.

And yes, very cute still-slightly-baby-ducks!
I love being able to go on little nature walks like that. Even if they're just small parks and things within the city, it's still nice to get to go on walks and see wildlife and flowers and things.
