Lair o' the Bear [part 1]

FINALLY, WE GOT TO GO OUTSIIIIIDE.

It's been way too long! I don't consider myself *super* outdoorsy, and what I call a "hike" is more of a nature walk, and I like it that way. However, it's been *weeks* since my weekends weren't devoted to other shit. (Sometimes fun things like hanging out with Taylor, sometimes unfun things like the dentist.)

But today we went to Lair 'o the Bear. It's a county open space park that's really not too terribly far to get to. There's also a lot of creek access, so Cy had a chance to wade and cool down. It was pretty warm today - mid/upper 80s - which I will take any day over the cold crap from the end of last week.

A nice calm spot along the creek.

Cy, standing pensively.

And a very lovely butterfly on some type of aster. The wings look kind of like stained glass!

Plants gone to fluff.

I'm not sure what these flowers are - they look like thistle flowers, but definitely not thistle foliage. Whatever they are, the bees love 'em!

A little split in the creek going around an island.

And a little patch of faster moving water after the calm spot.

Cy wading!

A few different flowers.

A different spot along the creek, with some clearly human-made rock layers.

Getting to go on a real walk was very nice. We saw quite a few different butterflies, a few interesting birds - two different brownish birds I couldn't ID, a female black-headed grosbeak, an adult and young Steller's jay, quite a few chickadees - tiny minnows, dragonflies, spiders, pond skaters, some other bugs, and a few different spots with recent elk poop (though no elk.)

Cy is super worn out. He did really well on the walk, and seemed energetic through the whole thing, but he definitely stiffened up afterwards, and now he's limping around a bit.

(Upcoming in part two... we got to go through a little culvert that has always had too much water for us to go through before.)

That place looks cool. I like the butterfly picture :)

The rock walls in the creek look nice for wading in.

That looks like a great place to go for a walk! I love the photo with the purple flowers and the butterfly. Poor Cy. Walking is fun, until it's not. o_O
