Covenant + Voicecoil show
Last set of show photos through stagelights for a while. :P We were spoiled for shows this month!
This time Covenant, with our friend Mark and his project Voicecoil opening!

The show flyer.

Obligatory venue sign. Taken after the show. The little white dot at the top of the sign is the moon.

Voicecoil opening!

Covenant! (Mostly Eskel)
Mark got to make a very exciting announcement, too: Voicecoil has been signed to Dependent Records! They're a German label who have released things for a LOT of pretty prominent artists within the scene, including Covenant, so that's extremely exciting news. (He actually told me and Alex about it several months ago while things were still being ironed out, but it's official now!)
I took a half day at work so that we'd have plenty of time to get to the show. That worked out well - we had time to eat and to even take a quick nap before we headed to the venue.
Holy hell, I know it's been 3+ years since we've been anywhere or been doing anything, but there has been SO MUCH development around the area. The little neighborhood we used to park in for shows here is now like, mega-gentrified boxy apartments with micro-balconies. There are only two of the little houses that are still there, both converted to businesses - one an upscale small-batch liquor distillery, and one a soon-to-open skin care place advertising botox. :/
We pre-gamed and hung out in the car for a bit until a few minutes after doors.
We did see Mark (eating last minute dinner) outside, so we got to give him a quick hug before heading inside.
I like The Oriental Theater. It really *was* a theater:

I like that the little entry and bar area is decorated with old film reels.

And the murals and recessed lighting. Over to the left you can see one of the once-box seats.
Voicecoil opened! Some more pictures:

The new keyboard player is (also) named Alex. Patrick got fairly unceremoniously fired from the project shortly after the CD release. I'm sorry that things ended on bad terms, because I was and am friends with both Mark and Patrick, but it seems like it was a long time coming. He looked rough at the album release show, and while I didn't notice anything wrong during that show, and chalked up the handful of issues to tech problems, it sounds like they had to cut his mic a few times because he just kept fucking up, didn't know his parts, etc. That plus some issues at previous shows where he got fucked up to a bad degree... it got to a point where he was a detriment to the project.
Mark has been trying to very seriously get this project to go somewhere, and as evidenced by the very exciting signing news, he's succeeding! Having someone tied to the project that he couldn't trust to take it seriously or to present them well wasn't a good thing.

And then Covenant played!
They were here back in... 2019 sometime? We wanted to go, but just couldn't afford it at the time, so it was nice to get to see them this time!

Covenant, in purple!

In yellow!

In blue!

I am Very Bad at knowing the names of people in bands, but I believe this is Daniel. I like this picture a lot.

And in white!
The lights were cool, but man, if you had undiagnosed photosensitive epilepsy or anything else triggered by blinking lights, this show would probably let you know.
And the show itself was a lot of fun... but I feel like they flubbed a few songs? Not musically, but lyrics-wise, there were sections of songs just... skipped, or sometimes repeated? Idk, it was a little weird and unexpected. But it was still a very enjoyable show, and I was glad we got to go this time!
