Another stupid day
According to
scarlipswolfwife Mercury is in retrograde, and it's living up to its promise.
We had a flat tire this morning. Must have run over a nail last night, and it went flat overnight. (BIG fuckin' nail, too.) I DO know how to change a tire, but this was the first time we've had to do it on this vehicle... and this truck is the first I've had where the spare is underneath. So that was a fun new experience.
Plenty of things to be glad of: we got to do this in the parking garage, not on the side of the road in the mud, or in the cold, and it didn't happen during the subzero + snow we may be getting in a few days. It also wasn't a blowout on the highway. The truck *had* a spare tire for us to put on it. The spare held air, even though it was pretty flat itself until we limped to a gas station to put air in.
But it was a shitty way to start the morning, and crawling around under the truck on the grimy floor of the garage in my work clothes was extra stupid. And I was just over an hour late to work.
Alex had a doctor's appointment later this morning, which would have been much later than dropping me at work, except for the delays. His appointment was at 11:30, and he was there by 11:34. Then he was held up at their door check procedures/Covid screening, so despite having *been there* within five minutes, he didn't get to the waiting room until 11:40, and they'd already cancelled his appointment. (Even stupider, his doctor was running a half hour behind... so he was 20 minutes early for when she would have gotten to see him.)
Later he found out that his riding trainer accepted a new job as assistant trainer... at a facility in Parker. The facility they board at (where he takes lessons and leases a horse) is about 20ish minutes away, and is a super nice facility, which has been remarkably low-drama. But at the end of April, the horses will be moved to the facility where his trainer just got hired. The new place sounds nice from their site, but it's more than 45 minutes away. And Parker is... a real snooty area. It's a nice area, and definitely more English riding friendly, but... snooty. The other concern is that it's probably going to be more expensive for him to continue lessons or lease rides, since the board there is likely to be much higher (though his trainer hasn't given a price yet.) The extra expense, plus the extra gas to get nearly an hour away... Oof.
It's already a financial struggle to afford it. I've tried to prioritize it, because it's been really good for Alex's mental health. Horses are important to him, always have been, and he's been happy getting to ride. If there is an way for me to keep affording it, and Alex wants to keep doing it, I will. (He says he's undecided, but I'm fairly sure he wants to. He's really not happy about the prospect of the drive, but he likes his trainer and the horse he's leasing.)
Kind of a general yuck day.
