Writing Goals/Calendar: July 2023
Recap of the year so far:
January - May:
- finished writing a fic for a zine
- finished posting All Strange Wonders (Kingdom Hearts Destiny Trio, Howl's Moving Castle AU)
- finished posting Outbreak (Silent Hill fic about a supernatural illness)
- re-outlined a self-indulgent fic (Kingdom Hearts "Worldhopping Fairytale Monstrosity" AU)
And how was June?
Well...
- Finish Sparrow Hill Road canon refresh by the 20th
Haha, no. I'm still slowly poking at it, but I've really struggled to find time to read, for all the same reasons as usual. There's nowhere quiet I can go, and when I'm trying to take notes it's even harder/more time consuming, so I can't take advantage of as many little five- and ten-minute bursts either.
- Start Alice Isn't Dead canon refresh.
Since I haven't finished the first refresh, I definitely haven't started the second.
- Start looking at the AUgust prompts, maybe start planning or writing them
This one I did do! I wrote up very brief ideas for each of the prompts, for a total of 35 ideas (31 prompts, plus 4 jokers for substitution). I did it longhand, so don't have an exact wordcount, but probably a few thousand words or so.
So... it wasn't a NOTHING month. I'm pretty happy with having gotten ideas for the prompts written down, and I'm happier that it was a reasonably steady thing as opposed to just one or two big bursts of effort.
Buuuuut, I also didn't actually get very far on the thing that was supposed to be my next project, and because of how far behind I am on that, I think it needs to get pushed out even more.
Additionally related to writing, I did set up a comm here on DW to post my writing to (because I do think having more than one host is a good thing.) I'm also crossposting my older fic to SquidgeWorld. That's been a little time-consuming, but I'll be glad to have it done. So far I've gotten ten old short stories from 2017 up on the DW account, and 23 loosely-connected oneshots from 2019 up on both DW and SW.
July
Pivoting away from my previous goals a bit.
- I did join "Camp NaNo" with a goal of 15000 words by the end of the month. That'd be 1000 words each for roughly half of the AUgust prompts. Now, I doubt I'll confine each prompt to 1000 words, but if I could get about half of them done by the end of the month, that'd be great!
- by mid-month, finish posting older fics to both the DW comm and the SquidgeWorld site. I've got a tentative day-by-day list of what to try and get shared, and if I stick to it, I should be done by 7/17
- keep reading Sparrow Hill Road. I'm not sure whether I'll finish it by the end of the month or not, though I'd like to!
- not quite writing-related, but relevant because it takes up time: I also still have a significant backlog of posts here that I need to write.
August
- AUgust! 31 fics in 31 days. If I can get about half of them ready to go before the month starts, I'll be glad.
- I doubt I'll have much time left to tackle anything else! But maybe continue reading, if possible
September
- Probably my first chance to try for the Alice Isn't Dead relisten.
- Maybe find something else to outline or work on while still doing canon-refresh
