November 06: Belmar Park
Back in early November, we took advantage of a fairly nice day to go out on a walk.
The water was quite still, so the reflections were pretty dramatic. Also, ducks!
My favorite sighting of the day: a garter snake! A fairly good-sized one, probably three feet long? We saw a bullsnake early in the year, and my mom saw one near her house as well, but otherwise it's been a fairly snakeless year, so I was glad to see one!
Cy decided to give everyone a minor heart attack early on. We walked out onto one of the docks, and were looking at the ducks and such... and he just... fell in. He must have slipped, and his back end went under the railing and over the edge, and then he went sliding. Fortunately it was only a short fall - three or four feet - and into water a couple feet deep, so he had a semi-cushioned landing. He did not seem at all traumatized, and just walked back around the dock to shore, but it definitely scared Alex and me. Fortunately he was fine. His back end has gotten pretty unsteady, though.
A nest from earlier in the year. Such a nicely woven thing.
Northern shovelers were certainly the Duck of the Day. Here's a pair of them, plus all the geese hanging out on the cormorant nesting island.
A turtle surfacing!
And more turtles sunning.

Oh no, Cy! I'm glad he wasn't hurt/scared.

And yes, poor Cy! He just seemed a bit confused as to how he wound up down in the water, and then was excited to get a nice big drink, lol. While it was probably startling, I was so relieved he wasn't hurt.

And very much poor Cy! He seemed mostly a little surprised or confused about it, but I was really glad he wasn't hurt.
