Favorite pictures from the year (+dead phone...)
Well, today my phone died. It's probably all the way dead. It's stuck in an infinite boot loop, showing me the logo for about a half second, then going dark, then trying again. I can try to force it into recovery mode, and then it just flashes "recovery" at me for a half a second instead, lol.
So the hope is that it wears the battery down all the way and then I can try to see if it'll magically start correctly once I charge it back up. (Of course, HOW LONG do I have to wait for the battery to die? How much power is the little on-off blink consuming? Lots, because it's trying to boot? Or next to none? It's been stuck in this loop for about 11 hours now, and it's still going...)
I don't think it's worth paying much of anything to try and get it repaired, because it's a crappy phone that's needed replacing anyway. But it also SUCKS to have to replace a phone after you've lost access to the old one, because so much account stuff won't transfer over. It's also usually also a nightmare for two-factor authentication things, as so many things (in my experience) try to send a confirmation to an old device, even if you've ported the number to a new one.
BUT UNRELATED TO THAT:
Here are my favorite pictures that I took this year. These aren't Serious Photography or anything, they're just phone pics (FROM MY POOR DEAD PHONE), but I still got some that I'm very happy with this year. I was going to do my top ten, but I wound up with top 15. :)
My favorite subject matter is pretty apparent! It's almost all dogs, flowers, insects, and birds!
April 11, a neighboring city park

This one isn't the greatest or clearest shot ever... but the timing was perfect! I caught the kingfisher just as it hit the water in a dive, and the cute little wood duck couple as well.
April 18, Pelican Pond

Another one with good timing - catching this very talkative chickadee right as he fanned his tail. He was following us around and had a LOT to say. I'm guessing he had a nest nearby.

This picture of Bella turned out SO well, in the nicely dappled sunlight. It was a hot day, and it was the first time we brought her to any kind of event, but she did extremely well. She was also at least starting to look a bit better and healthier, though she's doing even better now. You can also see her little pride flower bow on her collar.
June 27, Denver Botanic Gardens

This was just a really nice picture of an orchid. Alex and I joked about sending it out as a fake postcard, pretending we'd gone on some exotic tropical vacation, haha.
July 21, Denver Botanic Gardens

An extremely nice picture of a painted lady butterfly. I love that all the little detailed spots in the lower wings are visible, and you can even see the blue in said spots.

This is a simple picture of bees on flowers, but I really like how it came out.

This one is a sand wasp, which wasn't a species I was familiar with, but they really are almost blue! It stood out so well against the bright yellow.
July 31, neighborhood park

Oh, the drama! The tiny little ant trying so valiantly to steal the small wasp snack from the ambush bug!
August 22, Hudson Gardens

Such a fluffy bumblebee! It matches the sunflower so perfectly!
September 11, neighborhood park

A picture of both Cy and Bella. They don't always want to cooperate when I want their picture together, but this one was pretty cute.

And a very good closeup of a bee fly! This is another insect that I don't see very often, so it was nice to get a chance to get some pictures of one that was very docile.
October 09, neighborhood park

Closeup of a honeybee on a flower in the park.
October 10, neighborhood park

Just a "regular" moth, but I love how well it shows the fluffy little legs, and how well the light worked. It practically glows!
October 14, Solar Eclipse

One of the better pictures I got of the eclipse. It wasn't a total eclipse, but you can see the sun being chipped away at a bit. It also showed off the little crescent shape that reflected in the lens.
October 17, Roxborough State Park

This sweet little deer family! I was so glad they walked by where we'd chosen to take a break.

Yeah, it's pretty clear what things I most like to take pictures of, haha. Areas with water are especially lovely!

Best of luck with setting up the new phone... Not having access to the old one makes a lot of things more awkward indeed :(

Mild success on the phone front: Alex had an old phone that I was able to swap my SIM card into, so I am back to having a functional phone. Granted, this phone was replaced for a reason, but we're hoping the factory reset he did on it will keep it behaving well for me. Still lost a lot of stuff from the old phone, but only some things that I can't easily replace.

Lovely selection of photos!

Thank you!

I'm so sorry about the phone! Could you take it to someone who might be able to recover the memory even if it won't turn on?
Those are some great photos! I love the one with the bee fly, and Bella and Cy, and Bella in the dappled shade, and the moth... and all of them, honestly :)

And thank you! The bee fly is one of my favorites. So are the dogs, of course!

Such great pics! Puppers and fuzzy insects and flowers!

And thank you! It's pretty clear that fuzzy insects are apparently one of my favorite subjects, haha. (And dogs and flowers, lol.)

That's unfortunately been my experience as well... repairs are rarely worth it. I had some writing notes and some downloaded files that I'll be sad to have lost from the old one, but it's not stuff that's worth paying a lot to retrieve... especially when that retrieval may not even work.

You take such lovely photos!

And thank you! :)
