I Am Sick
Ugh.
On Saturday night, I got home from work, we ate dinner, and I almost immediately fell asleep - by probably about 8:30 or so. (And tbh, I don't know where the rest of the time up until then went to.) I woke up long enough to take the dogs out in the -5°F temperatures for the 10:30 jaunt, then came back in and went straight back to bed.
Otherwise I felt okay, I was just so fatigued I couldn't DO anything but sleep.
I was annoyed about it yesterday at work, because I do have stuff I want to be working on, but I literally did absolutely nothing after getting home. So, I set up a plan to get caught up here, to get some writing done, to catch up on some tracking, to maybe do some household stuff...
I still felt fine, though I was really tired, despite having slept a good 11 hours or so. It was miserably cold, and I caved and bought a cup of noodles from the corner store for lunch because eating something warm sounded good. It tasted just slightly off, but I figured it was just that it was, y'know, cup of noodles. Now I'm guessing it was an early sign that I was getting sick.
Came home, still pretty tired... and fell asleep before 7:30. Again, got up long enough to take the dogs out in the -10°F temperatures. I was awake for a little bit longer, but not enough to do much. Fell asleep around midnight.
Woke up by about 1:00 with a sore throat. Hoped it was just how cold and dry it's been, but drinking liquids made it feel worse. After that, I just woke up every twenty minutes or so because I'd swallow and it'd hurt enough to wake me.
Texted my manager and told her to have the other support staff wipe my desk down with lysol before she sat there today, ha. Fortunately today/tomorrow is my weekend.
The roads were pretty bad all day, so we didn't go anywhere (except, again, to take the dogs out in the now "feels like -25°F" windchill.) Maybe tomorrow the roads will be clear enough for a dayquil/nyquil run.
I don't have a fever, but I *feel* like I have a fever. My skin hurts, I'm achey, the inside of my ears feel sore and hot. The worst is definitely the sore throat. It's so swollen it's difficult to swallow, and it is extremely painful to do so. I slept most of the day, and Bella was mostly a pretty good cuddle buddy, lol. (Cy kept nearly shoving my legs off the bed, ha.)
I got the full "staying home sick from school" experience (despite it being my day off), as Alex put on Judge Judy's new show ("Judy Justice" or whatever) for mindless background. Judge Judy was *always* what was on in the middle of the day if I was home sick, haha.
Took an (admittedly expired) rapid test, and did not come up positive for Covid, but we've got flu and RSV and mystery crud going around, too.
Sooooo, everything else is on hold. Not gonna worry about writing or catching up here until I feel at least a little bit better. I hope everyone else is well. I'm glad this likely isn't Covid, but it's still no fun.

The weather certainly doesn't make it better! At least we got a minor warm-up today. 30s isn't exactly toasty, but it's better than the -19° we hit yesterday!
Thank you, I hope this runs its course soon. Right now it just seems to be migrating.

I did take a second Covid test today, a different brand, which also came back negative, so at least that's looking more likely. Still not a certainty, but at least looking like the odds are better.
Oooof almost sounds like Flu
Did you ever get your tonsils out? That level of sore throat is a bit worrisome.
Re: Oooof almost sounds like Flu
The skin hurty thing is awful! It feels like someone... idk, scraping a bruise or something, when really it's just "ah, my shirt lightly brushed against my arm hair." Insulting.
I did not ever get my tonsils out, yet I really wish I had. Sore throats are literally my least favorite way to be sick, and the ones I get seem to be severe. The swelling got a bit better when I remembered that anti-inflammatories exist, ha, though it's still pretty unrelentingly painful.

Sore throats are genuinely my least favorite way to be sick. There aren't any fun ways - puking and coughing also suck - but sore throats are just constantly inescapable.
I did test negative on a different test today, so that's promising. But I think I am likely to stay home for at least one day. I don't want to miss much more than that (there's the whole "now a bunch of stuff didn't get done at all, so my days after coming back are hell" thing.) Seriously though, there've been a LOT of people out sick, and I haven't called out in over a year, I think.
At least we started to warm up a little. After hitting -19° yesterday, we were up to 30something today!

Sore throats are one of the worst things ever because there's usually nothing to make it feel better, esp eating. BUT. I learned some tricks one of the times I had strep throat. Aside from hot tea and soup (and no dairy if possible), get cans of peaches and mandarin oranges. Open them and put them in containers in the fridge. Let them get cold. They are so soothing, you don't have to chew a lot, and they're yummy when you feel like shit. Better than fucking Jello.
You definitely need to call out sick if you aren't feeling better. They owe you that. And they should do some of your work for you while you're out since you always get stuck with other people's work when they're out. I'm glad that it's not Covid, though!
We haven't hit that low, but we got down to 14º last night. They were expecting icy freeze on Monday, but we didn't have the rain and only a little moisture so that there was frost on the ground and that was it. The power grid held. We still have the rest of this month and February to get through before we can stop holding our breath about another Snowpocalypse or Freak Ice Storm.

Alex also got mildly sick this time, but definitely nowhere near as badly as me, and already seems to be recovering, so that's hopefully a relief. He took care of most of the grocery shopping and stuff, so I really only had to make one trip.
Sore throats are terrible, because they are just so inescapable! Weirdly, cold hasn't been as soothing as it usually is, but I love the refrigerated fruit idea! Mandarin oranges that just... slide on down sounds very appealing. This time, I mostly just went with hot soup and broth and such. Warm was strangely more soothing than cold, which isn't normally how it works for me.
I did fortunately manage to take a couple days off. All of Wednesday, most of Thursday, and all of Friday. I kinda wish I'd toughed out one of those days and taken one this week, because even with the time off I've just been feeling worse. But I'm capable of sitting upright, and at least I now *mentally* feel a bit better, even if the physical symptoms are still just as bad.
Ugh, the whole cold snap that hit basically everyone was terrible. I'm really glad that the power held for you through this one, and I hope you don't have anything else this year that throws it into question.
