Sick Still Sucks
Still sick, still being a baby about it.
Tuesday: still mostly a sore throat, but also the beginnings of nasal congestion in fun colors, and frequent nosebleeds. Did make it to the store to get cold meds and soup! Took a second Covid test with a different brand, and still negative.
Wednesday: stayed home from work. Feeling a little worse than Tuesday, but with mostly the same symptoms. Spent almost the whole day lying down, though hard to get much rest, because it was hard to breathe well, so I didn't stay asleep. Also started a dry cough.
Alex also started feeling generally unwell.
Thursday: took a third Covid test, still negative, so went in to work (masked!), with the intent of working a half-day. Didn't even make it to the halfway point: manager told me to go home at noon. Apparently I sounded as rough as I felt!
Discovered that I can do telehealth via my insurance, though no longer for free. Set up an appointment. After a $45 3-minute call, I was diagnosed with a "viral respiratory infection: unspecified," and was given a px for a cough med and a nasal spray, and told to buy some throat numbing spray. Went to lay down, slept for several hours, woke up. Realized I didn't have any way to know when the prescriptions were received or filled. Called pharmacy, but they didn't have my px. Realized I'd put in for the wrong location (right company, right street, wrong location), but tracked down the correct one. They had gotten the px but not filled it yet. Told them the next day was fine.
Initially I felt like the cough med was maybe not needed, because it was a minor dry cough... and then I started coughing a lot more heavily by evening. Productive coughs that taste like infection. Yum!
Alex also still not feeling great. Less specific in terms of symptoms - his just seems to be general aches/headache/sinus pain/unwell feeling. I hope he doesn't get all the crud I've got, though it seems unlikely that we have different sicknesses. I hope his doesn't venture through the array of yuck that mine has.
Friday: stayed home from work. Went to out of the way grocery store to pick up more soup/orange juice/dayquil/etc. plus my prescriptions. Another $50. Being sick is too damn expensive. Won't even use the $40 nasal spray, because I'm already having constant nosebleeds, and the only thing it does is reduce runny nose (which I don't have). It specifically says it does not reduce congestion or post-nasal drip, which are the two things I AM having problems with. (Wish I'd seen that before picking it up, since then I would have just... not.) But at least I have my cough med. Cough got a lot worse, and made it hard to rest. Tastes so bad. Really distressingly vile grey-green color.
Today: back to work, because I have very little PTO left. I was given permission (and encouragement) to take a half day, but again, no PTO. Cough has gotten substantially worse (which is, in some ways, better - I want this stuff out of my lungs, not in.) But I had to go outside multiple times to cough up concerning quantities of fluid. Very gross.
The worst part is, obviously, how miserable being sick is. I don't want all of this fluid and slime in the wrong quantities in the wrong places! I'm tired of my throat hurting! The Slime tastes terrible! I'm so fucking tired!
But the second worst part is just how little I can get done. I just had two and a half extra days at home, and I did NOTHING. I couldn't even focus on trying to do things like read posts or reply to comments here. I have tons of little home projects I want to do - little cleaning and organizing projects, hanging stuff up, etc. - and I wasn't able to do any of them. I definitely didn't get any writing done, so that whole set of "due dates" is out the window. I get that resting is the best thing I can be doing right now... but generally, I'd LOVE to have a couple days away from work with no demands on my time, and yet I can't even use that time for anything.

I've always complained about the way the back of my throat tastes when I have post-nasal drip and it makes sense that it's infection, but it also makes it all seem so much more gross, lol!
I can't recall your days off (Sun-Mon or Mon-Tues), but I hope you get to do all the sleeping you can. *hugs you from a distance g*

The particular taste of infection is just... so very gross. Everything I hack up from my lungs tastes just so disgustingly vile!
Mon-Tues were my days off, so at least I had a couple days to sleep. Not enough, but better than nothing!
