Busy handful of days!
Had a pretty busy string of days over the last week:
I'd been mildly dreading it - I had a LOT of dental issues stemming from a chunk of years without any real care. I'm very lucky that I found a great dentist, and she managed to help with the literal dozen or so fillings I needed. Since, I've tried to be really on top of things... but last time I had another cavity, and it was a bit disheartening. This time I was prepared for worse, but surprisingly, everything looks good! (The horrifying hole in my jaw remains a topic of conversation for everyone who sees the x-rays, but it appears to be completely stable, much to everyone's relief.)
After that, I went in for a half-day at work, and my manager just had me do as much prep for the weekend as possible, since we were anticipating that horrible snowstorm + I was already taking Fri-Sun off. My manager gave me preemptive permission not to come in if the weather was as bad as was being threatened.
We DID get the threatened snow, and I was extremely glad not to have to fight to get in to work. (Or home.) The main roads were surprisingly okay, considering, but the side roads were a slushy mess, and I don't think we could have gotten out from behind our building.
Alex and I finalized some prep for the Friday show. He also went through a bunch of his older model and craft stuff to filter out some things to sell at the Saturday swap meet. We cleaned out the weird alcove next to our kitchen, which is just storage for some of his model stuff. While that's still all that fits there, the pile of boxes we got rid of was pretty staggering. The stuff still in the alcove is much better wrangled.
We were the most prepared I think we've ever been! We were there literally a minute after the doors opened for setup, and we finished our setup with twenty minutes to spare! Even the new "no cash parking, it must be done through an app!" didn't phase us!
Then the rest of the day was pretty bad, heh. This was by far the worst we've done at a show... ever, including all our previous entries at *this* show, which is an annual one. 19 placings and only 3 class wins, none of which went on to any division wins. Alex was really disappointed. The judges change every year, and this year the judges' and our tastes just... didn't align.
My mom watched Cy and Bella for us, and they were very good at least.
I slept about twelve hours. I didn't think the show had taken it out of me that bad, but apparently it had! We'd considered going back to the horse expo, which was an all-weekend event (and is part of why I'd taken the whole weekend off.) But we saw the schedule on Friday, and it was pretty meh. There was no longer a discounted weekend pass option, so it would have been another $45 for us to go ($15 each for tickets + $15 parking), and the offerings were... really limited compared to previous years. The expo is basically a... horse convention, so you have the vendor floor, but also various clinics and competitions going on throughout the complex in all the different arenas. This year, they only had things going on in maybe five or so of the arenas instead of ten+ like previous years. (And at least a few of the names we recognized who were leading the clinics were assholes that we hated from previous years, ha.) So... we didn't go back.
We did go to the swap meet in the evening, and THAT was very successful! We got rid of enough of our stuff to condense it down into a single (large) box! And even though we bought more than we'd meant to, we still wound up having turned a profit!
My mom made me some belated birthday dinner (homemade spaghetti, very good.) Taylor and I mostly played more FFXIV. We got through most of the second part of the Heavensward expansion. THE EVIL POPE KILLED OUR BOYFRIEND. >:(
We also did the first part of the Dark Knight class questline (aka: "have any of you chumps seen Fight Club?"), since you pick it up in the same city you're in for the bulk of Heavensward.
We also watched the very dumb and much-memed Sonic livedub video, which was deeply stupid but also very funny.
We continued playing FFXIV and finished the second part of Heavensward (which is the end of the main quest, though it does leave a pretty big "to be continued.") Then we started on the "Alexander" raid series, which is what the conclusion of the second part of Heavensward leads into. We did not quite finish, because there was planned server downtime.
Taylor and I then started reading Backpacking Through Bedlam, which I just finished, but we read the Incryptid books together after I'm done with them, ha.
Mostly good days (minus Friday being a letdown), but pretty busy. I feel like I have a bunch of stuff to catch up on, and we'll see how well I manage it as I head into my workweek. This is likely the longest string of days off I'll have for a very long while (six days!) but it feels like they were over in a flash, and like I'm very not ready to go back to work.

I'm sorry you didn't make out as good at the horse show as you'd hoped. But yay for sleeping and a belated birthday dinner and doing fun stuff!

I am BEYOND over this whole winter thing, lol. Ours has been relatively mild too, but that does make it feel terribly rude when the nice days go away in favor of YET MORE COLD AND SNOW. I'm so beyond ready for REAL spring.
The show was kind of a bummer, but the rest of the week was good.

(Today I'm wearing leggings under my pants and a turtleneck. I so miss the days of shorts and tank tops.)

We had that awful storm that shut the city down more or less last Thursday. It's been lovely the last few days (which we were not in a position to be outside to enjoy), and Monday (my next day off) is supposed to drop below freezing with more snow again!
I'm tired of having to wear layers and bring a coat everywhere I go! I'm so ready for it to just be warm and stay warm!

Maybe if we think it hard enough spring will be sprung. *wishes*

I'm glad you didn't get the full foot of snow, but still! Yuck! I'm tired of any!
Definitely wishing for real spring.

The show was kind of a bummer (though my stained glass one wasn't there. It'll go to the next one, hopefully!) It is definitely how it goes: depends what the judge's personal criteria is and what else is entered.
The rest of the week was good, though!

I hope your boyfriend winds up to not be really dead and you kill the evil pope!

Alas, the video game boyfriend heroically sacrificed himself to save the player character and died in our arms. We did kill the evil pope, though! And then had a touching moment at boyfriend's grave. (And okay, it's not completely canonically the player's boyfriend, because this isn't a romance-an-NPC game... but there's a lot of subtext, and afterwards the other characters (including boyfriend's father) comment about how close you were and all. Painful!)

I'm sorry the show was a disappointing experience this year, other than the swap. :(
it feels like they were over in a flash, and like I'm very not ready to go back to work.
Never, ever long enough.

The show was a bummer, but at least the rest of the weekend was nice.
Still definitely would have loved more days off though. It's never enough!

And I hope you guys can avenge your boyfriend! Make them pay!

We did avenge video game boyfriend! We killed the evil pope and his honor guard!

Yay! I'm so glad you avenged him & slayed the evil folks behind it! lol.
