Sounds like I'm off the hook for Sunday at work, but not totally for Saturday.

All four of the weekend offsite classes cancelled, and they decided to cancel all of the drives, and decided to cancel the one-day classes for Sunday. Buuuut they still want to do the in-person class series for Saturday (and Sunday at other locations; that just doesn't apply to mine.)

My current plan is to go in tomorrow morning, and stay VERY briefly. Most predictions state that things will get bad fast tomorrow, and I don't want to wind up stranded anywhere, or worse. So I plan to go in, do the prep work stuff for Monday, have Alex wait for me, and then get the fuck out, lol. I can help check students in for the class, but I'm not waiting around until 4:30 for the class to be over. (And god I hope we don't wind up with kids stranded or endangered because of this.)

The other sort of complication for tomorrow is that apparently the other online support person is going to be gone, so I would be the only person doing tech support. But... I also refuse to sit in the center just for that. Assuming my power stays on, I can try to do it from home, so I'll send an email out about that today.

Then for Sunday, it sounds like we're cancelling everything, so I'm just taking PTO.

My manager knows all this, so it should all be good.

Alex is still pretty unhappy about me going in at all on Saturday (since he has to drive me), but I do hope this is at least a reasonable compromise between safety and still looking like a good employee doing what I can. So hopefully we get there and home safely without getting stranded/hitting a tree/dying, or maybe the weather will hold off enough to make the morning reasonably safe.

ETA: Well, never fucking mind on all of that. Manager just called me back, because she submitted the weekend coverage plan for the center and it was denied. She was told that I am "expected" to be there the full day for Saturday (unclear about Sunday; she's asking and calling me back) as I did not request the day off 14 days ago. Alex is unwilling to drive in the afternoon, because we do not believe our vehicle would be capable of making the drive, so my manager is going to have to come get me and take me home.

It was extremely difficult not to just say that I fucking quit.

I need this fucking job, without it we can't pay rent, I would rather fucking die than be in the car again, so I have to keep this fucking job.

But this is fucking bullshit. My manager also sounded upset about it, so I appreciate that she's also bothered by it, at least. (And she's willing to give me a ride, which I appreciate.) She agreed that it basically sounds like blackmail, that it's a threat that if we literally do not risk our safety, coming in against official warnings, that we will be fired.
Obviously I don't want anyone to be hurt, but there is that stupid vindictive, petulant, over-dramatic-teenager part of me that hopes that if I die, Alex or my family can get a nice wrongful death settlement because they forced me to go out in dangerous conditions.
I already knew with Covid that we were expendable, but this is fucking stupid.

Ugh, apparently our careful coverage plan was denied, as I did not request this time off at least two weeks in advance, and the owner has decided to be awful about it.

I may come down with "food poisoning" on Sunday.

It wound up being fine today, as the significant weather warnings have all been pushed back to overnight. So I'm glad it was mostly a non-issue, but it was still a shitty policy decision imo.

I'm glad it turned out okay, but yes, it was definitely a low blow by the management.

That absolutely sucks, I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to go out in those conditions.

Thank you. I think it's a really stupid, uncaring decision on their part. (And like... the owners are local, so this isn't like "oh, asshole mcgee on the east coast doesn't care about the location in Colorado having bad weather" no. The owners/upper management leave work early to go home ALL THE FUCKING TIME because they live up in the foothills and worry about the roads. But they don't work on the weekends, so it's not their problem!)

It's true that we don't KNOW what the roads are going to be like tomorrow... which is why we made a plan that involved me still going to work, but leaving once the roads were getting bad. While my intent was only to stay a couple hours, I would stay later if the roads stayed fine. I think they think I'm just being lazy, but that really isn't it.

Their "solution" for anyone worried about the roads is "get a hotel closer to your assigned location."

It is horrible, and even from a self-interested point of view very short sighted. I'm sorry you need to deal with that stuff.

Right? I think they said they would reimburse the stay on the next paycheck, but I doubt I'm the only employee on a tight budget, where dropping the cost of a hotel stay isn't something I can absorb, even temporarily.

Wow...that is absolute bullshit that your bosses are uncaring fuckwads who will risk everyone's safety. I really hope that you're able to stay safe, and that's good that your supervisor is willing to come get you and take you home. Ugh. *hugs*

Right? And like... it isn't like they live somewhere else, where the weather here doesn't affect them. It's a "local, family-owned company", with owners and upper management that leave early all the damn time if they're "worried about road conditions." While the policy *might* be the same on a weekday (though there'd be fewer classes to worry about), it seems real fucking easy for them to say "oh well, don't care how you do it, but you have to get in and stay there for your full shift" on a day none of them have to leave home.

I appreciate that my manager is willing to give me a ride, and was just as shocked/angry that they weren't allowing me to even *leave early* when the governor and CDOT are asking people to NOT BE ON THE ROADS.

Their solution for people worried about making it in on the roads was "well, maybe you should get a hotel room closer to your assigned location."
