Thanksgiving!

We had a pretty nice Thanksgiving.

I took a half day on Wednesday, and then went over to my mom and Taylor's. Taylor still had to work, but I hung out for a while. My mom made pumpkin pies.

On Thursday, Alex was going to make stuffing, then join us partway through the morning to come help cook, but... his morning was a rough one. He was having a bad pain day, and then Cy was sick, and it pretty much just kept spiraling. Ultimately he made it over, though!

We did our usual: mom got a turkey breast rather than a whole turkey, since there were just the four of us. We made mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce... pretty much the classic stuff. It was all very good!



And of course, Bella was the helpful-est dog in the entire world.

Cy helped by getting on my mom's couch and then not budging. He hurt his back again early in the week - not sure how, but he's definitely had a hard time getting around. He also decided that he no longer wanted to eat much of anything. Somehow he managed a few bites of turkey being hand-fed to him. (Spoiled monster.)

Bella found the whole day very exciting, and she did many zoomies around my mom's house, including flinging herself onto the couch and back.


Even Cy eventually sat up.

The day was nice. It was mostly pretty low-key, and I do enjoy the chance to make a bunch of food that we wouldn't normally cook.

I was pretty jealous of mom and Taylor, who both had Friday off, but alas.

Low-key holidays are my favorite kind! Sounds like everyone had a nice time. Cy and Bella are beautiful! I'm sorry to hear Cy hurt himself.

Same here: I far prefer pretty mellow holidays rather than ones that are busy or crowded or hectic. It was a nice day. And thank you! Poor Cy is just a very old man at this point, and sometimes he feels it.

Thank you! I like the traditional stuff too, especially since it is usually the only time we have any of it.

Bella was SO helpful! Lol.

Cy is doing better this week, though still a bit unbalanced and stumbly. He's definitely improved, though.

On Thanksgiving, Joe got two smoked turkeys and a half a smoked brisket from Thorndale meat market. Both were good, but brisket and smoked turkey are always drier the longer they exist, so leftovers aren't as good. So on Monday, I roasted the turkey breast Kathy and I got because we prefer roasted turkey - stays moister, and since it's just the two of us and we don't really eat dark meat from chicken or turkey, a breast is more than enough - gives us a day or two of leftovers but doesn't go overboard, so yeah, for four people, a turkey breast is always going to be enough, IMO. And that plate looks amazing.

Poor Cy. :( Sounds like he wasn't having a very good holiday, though Bella seemed to make up for it with her zoomies.

Smoked stuff is definitely best right away, in my experience. I love it, but yeah, not as good left over. I'm glad you guys got to make the roast one for you!

Yeah, poor Cy seems to be feeling his age. :( He's doing better this week, though still off-balance and kind of stiff. Poor old man.

Bella had the time of her life, though. Haha

And thank you! One of the handful of times we take out the ~fancy china.~ It may have been her grandmother's? It's a beautiful set!

He would definitely love a heating pad. I think we might have an old one somewhere... wonder where...

I know that his biggest issue is a disk in his back, but I would guess he probably has hip issues as well. Poor old man.

It was a nicely peaceful day. I'm glad to not have to deal with big deal gatherings.
