Lair o' the Bear
We went on another hike today! This time to Lair o' the Bear, just up in the mountains. The hike was between 2 and 3 miles, and was pretty flat. I didn't have nearly the trouble I had with endurance at Mount Falcon, but there also wasn't an incline this time.
It was really warm, though the sun was behind the clouds for a good part of it. (Apparently we missed there being tornadoes up north!)
Unfortunately it was pretty crowded - it is one of the better-known and easily accessible county parks, but I'd hoped a Monday afternoon wouldn't be too bad.
Also unfortunately ~mosquitoes~. I'm sure I was eaten alive.
But it was still a lovely hike!

A pretty little stream feeding into the creek.

A great blue heron! Probably the best part of the walk.

Some vibrant yellow flowers. There were a lot along the trail.

Drainage tunnel that goes under the highway. Mildly spooky, if you're into that.

I don't know what these white flowers are (they kind of look like a type of rose, but the foliage is all wrong, so I know they aren't that.) But there were lots of them, too.

The water was really high (not surprising after all those huge snow storms and the fairly steady rain a few weeks ago.) It's not been so high and fast previous times we've come here. Cy got to wade a little bit, but we had to be pretty careful about where we let him get in. This was a pretty steep drop in the river.

The heron! Alex saw it land, while I was paying attention to the dog, lol.

This picture makes me laugh. Standing all tall, staring over at us. (Probably at the dog.) "What did you just say?!"

Some nice lilacs.
As we walked down the path, suddenly there was... a castle. Like... a whole ass castle gated off the side of the path. I looked it up when we got home and it's exclusively a wedding venue, though originally it was a house that was built in the 30s/40s. Now knowing that, I wouldn't feel bad taking pictures, but at the time I didn't want to be a creeper if it was someone's house.

Another little white flower I can't identify.
Around this point we turned around, because the mosquitoes were pretty bad.

A lovely little aspen grove with wildflowers.

It's not completely in focus, but I loved this flower. I took several pictures, but my camera refused to focus on it, dammit.

Hummingbird!

Another little stream. (This may be the same one as the one before the cut, just farther down toward the creek.)

These flowers were also everywhere, and smelled super sweet. This particular bush had a ton of these little bees and their pollen saddlebags. So cute!

Swallows! I wish that they'd been eating more of the damn mosquitoes, lol.

And a shot of the creek.
It was a nice day out! Took a nap when we got back, and now am hopefully going to get some writing done before going to bed for the night.

It was very strange to see it. If it had been an earlier hour, with maybe a little bit of fog coming up off the creek, it would have been downright bizarre! I was a little bit sad to discover that it was just an expensive wedding venue, haha. Though the building itself is still interesting, regardless of what it is now.
