July 4: Fireworks + July 5: Dog Park

Yesterday after making the fruit salad, we did go to Golden for their fireworks show. (Ours were on the 3rd, and were *just* visible from our apartment if we crammed our faces into the glass of the kitchen window, lol. We thought they'd be a bit farther north and hence more visible but alas.)

Cy came with because he has far worse anxiety around being left at home than he does about fireworks. It's pretty common for service dogs, but even in "retirement", he has a hard time being away from Alex.

Cy wore a silly hat! It is amazing to me how many people stop and say something when he wears a hat. He's a cute dog (I'm biased), but when you add a hat, EVERYONE loses their minds, hahaha. Within a couple of minutes, he had double digit numbers of people either cooing and laughing at it, asking to pet him, making comments on it. (My favorite was "That is clearly a cool dog on his way to do very cool things.") He has another silly one, with ear flaps and reindeer antlers, for the winter, and that one has gotten people in other cars pointing and laughing at red lights.

Cy brings joy to the masses, is what I'm saying.

Look at him!!

"Where did we park?" "Oh easy, right across from the half-demolished glass-roofed building."

We parked a little over a half mile away since, predictably, the lots next to the actual park were packed. The walk was nice though, through bits of the historic district, so there are some nicer little old houses. (Some new hideous stuff, too, lol.) But nice shady trees and gardens and such.

The mural. It was very pretty!

There were food trucks at the event, but the lines were *extremely* long, so we just ate our fruit, lol.

And one more shot of Cy in his silly hat.

Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were out in frankly ridiculous quantities. They loved the dog - I felt like I spent most of the afternoon and especially evening smacking him to kill them, lol. (And it's good that he's so chill he doesn't really care that we were swatting him, lol.)
I racked up quite the kill count, but they were relentless. I have SO MANY bites today...
Alex did not appreciate me presenting him with every mosquito corpse. I tried to convince him that 12 years is the Mosquito Anniversary, but I don't think he believed me.

The fireworks were pretty good. We managed to find the exact right spot to sit on a ball field, despite not knowing where the fireworks would be in relation to the rest of the park. The show was a little bit low behind a tree line, and they didn't turn off the stadium lights which didn't help, but it was still pretty good. :)

And then today we went to the dog park, so that Cy could run some energy off. (Though it was hot, so he only made it about twenty minutes total.)

He knows what the words "dog park" mean, and if you say them to him in the car, he will bark the entire way there, which is funny because he rarely barks otherwise.

"Throw the ball! Throw it again!!"

Ah yes, the classic "I swear there's a bird up in that tree" picture. It's a fledgling oriole! One of the (actually orange) parents was up there too, but I couldn't get a picture of it.

An Art. (According to Alex there are several of these sculptures, 9 or 10, scattered around the city?)

A cactus flower. The rest were long done, but this one was in the shade.

Cy chased a ball a few times, and ran around a little bit, and then he was panting like a freight train. His endurance rarely keeps up with his enthusiasm.

Exhausti-bull.

We headed back once he was getting tired, because we don't want him to overdo it.

At the top of the hill by the bathrooms, there are kingbirds that nest. Several years ago they did, and were extremely protective of their nest, divebombing people and dogs as they came by. Well, they're there again!

Less aggressive this time, but definitely giving us the staredown.

And sure enough, the nest was in the next tree over, and the other parent came back with something to feed the babies.

And then everyone came home and took a nap.

Cy's hat is definitely awesome. Not gonna lie, I always lose my mind over dogs, and if they're in clothes, all bets are off on how dignified I'm going to behave. Looks like you all had fun, even Cy!

That hat is so cute omg. XD Such a chill doggo. He seems to be enjoying his retirement. <3

Too bad about the mosquitoes; I don't think I'd have the patience to stay in a place with that many for too long. ^^;;

One of the reason I can't do a lot of outdoor events is the mosquitos. They eat me up like crazy! (Funnily enough, they used to leave Pip alone until he had to go GF. Now they love his blood.)

Cy is the coolest dog ever!

Love the pics - the flowers, the mural, the birds.
