Back from vacation!
I wildly overestimated how much internet access I would have while we were out of town...
We drove out to Maryland to visit some of Alex's friends. That's a really long drive, but it was fun! It was nice to have a break... it's the first thing more than a long weekend I've taken in a very long time. My mom was kind enough to loan us her car for the trip, which is the only way we were able to do it, so very grateful to her.
Though waiting to greet us when we got home... sometime, likely early in said trip, the breaker that controls our fridge flipped. So we had a whole fridge and freezer of rotting-body-smelling food to clean out. And I'm the one with a stronger stomach, so it was pretty much me. Ugh.
Other than that... things all feel pretty much the same.
I watched and became wildly obsessed (at least for me) with Good Omens. I had minimal expectations for the series beforehand, and was fairly lukewarm about the casting, avoided much info about production, etc, despite (and because of) it being a long-time favorite book. But... I really enjoyed it! Like... a lot.
Still working on my KH Big Bang fic. I took some advice from a fellow participant regarding getting a notebook in which to write, so I actually got some written while away, even though I never had a chance to get on my computer. It's been a while since I wrote things out by hand, but it turns out I enjoy it. I reoutlined the fic a couple weeks ago, to address some issues I had with parts that seemed repetitive. I think it improved it. I also reached out to a beta, so that part is done!
The next check-in is a bit over a week away, and I do have the minimum wordcount needed for it, so I don't have to stress beyond getting it into shareable format (since my computer uses such an outdated version of Word it runs into compatibility issues.) But I know I WILL struggle with next month's check if I don't get my butt in gear and get more words down more quickly. If I can write out one scene per day (34 remaining, per my outline), then I should be good. But finding the time is hard, since Alex wants to do stuff once I'm home from work (even if it's just watching something), and that's really the only time I have.
Also, Alex got hideously sick as soon as we got back from our trip, and I am trying desperately not to catch it. And I have an awful peeling sunburn, haha.
I'll post some pictures from the trip soon, I hope.

The first of maybe 7 or so posts is up with a few photos from the trip! Though this one is just the road trip out there portion.
The fridge was SO GROSS. Alex took the trash out, but I had to get the rotting things into the trash bags, and... ugh. Most of the smell is gone, but there are still occasional whiffs of it, and I'm not sure what to do except try to neutralize it with baking soda. I've scrubbed everything I can reach, lol. (Mostly I'm mad that we have to replace so much food. It wasn't a ton, but it sucks to have to replace what there was.)
Ugh, I'm so sorry you had to do that for that other group. Gross. (My particular He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named and my ex had the grossest pileups of trash and rotting food (also often still on the dishes) in their room the year we shared an apartment... It still makes me a bit queasy to think of, so I imagine it may have been... similar.) Yeah, all gamers certainly aren't that way, but there's a venn diagram between "gamers" and "people who let their living space get that way" and the overlap is not insignificant, lol.

Eh. It's okay that I did it. I mean, the guy treated us to a really really nice dinner at an expensive restaurant. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't long before the apartment was a gross wreck again. At one point, there were three guys living in the apartment, all gamers, all with that gamer mentality. I think I went up there once after the third guy moved in, and I was just like...nope. I think they asked if we wanted to come clean again and I just noped the hell out of there. Expensive dinner be damned. There's just no reason for that level of grossness. Just no reason at all.

I'm glad they at least treated you to nice dinner, but it just baffles me that any adult can let their living space get like that. Like... *how*. I've known several who just seem... so confused that they need to ever clean. I know I get my space get cluttered, but it isn't *dirty*. I'm guilty of "this is the pile of laundry that maybe can be worn again, so it lives in this pile for now" and the "yes I have ten books and seven pens and some pins and loose change and misc stuff on this small table", but I'm very careful about nothing like food or spilled things or just straight up trash. Yuck.
