Summary:
Settling into his new home on Destiny Islands isn't going quite as smoothly as Riku might have hoped. It's hard enough for a vampire to establish themselves in a new territory, even under the best of circumstances. Harder, when he discovers that apparently the islands have their own pair of monster hunters. Not to mention that the unknown creature in the shadows seems like an increasingly dangerous threat, especially as more and more humans disappear without a trace. When the disappearances turn to bodies with bite marks deliberately framing Riku for the killings, it seems like any hope of a peaceful existence in his new home is beyond his reach.

In Chapter 4: Riku goes looking for a fight, and he finds one.

Day 5 of Covid: Cough was worse overnight, but has backed off some during the day. Sense of smell and taste seem almost normal. Congestion is about the same. I did not sleep well last night, but didn't take a nap today either. Tomorrow *could* theoretically be my last day of quarantining, but I'll see how I feel. I may stay home Thursday, too. Apparently the quarantine recommendation is the same regardless of test outcomes, but I really don't think I'd feel right going back to work if I'm still testing positive. :/ I'll take a test tomorrow and see what it comes back as, too.

Alex tested negative again today, so I congratulated him on his no-vid.

I'm glad Alex is fine so far. It sucks that the quarantines are so short now.

I'm glad, too! I'm hopeful that at this point he just won't catch it.

The quarantine period feels far too short. The idea that you should be okay with returning to work/normal activities *even if you still test positive* seems... kinda wild (in a bad way) to me. I hate that it seems far more about ~the economy~ or whatever than preventing spread.

Yeah, it just doesn't feel effective at actually stopping it. Working while sick just sucks.

i can't decide if i read this at exactly the right time or exactly the wrong time hahaha!! i just read the fic start to finish and now i can't wait for the final chapter. no rush though, i am also sick right now (which is why i was reading fanfic instead of doing anything else)

this is a really interesting world you've set up, by the way. i love the way you worked each character's role in the original story into their situations here!

Haha, thank you so much for reading! The final chapter will be out in either one week or two weeks! Just have to fight through the brain fog and make words happen.

Honestly I consider this a good quarantine

2 days after you feel well enough to wipe down as much of your house as possible and wash all your clothes (and your car steering wheel while airing it out). If you feel fine 2 days after doing a huge spate of physical cleaning - (which is suppose to keep the virus from piggy backing) then you are good to go. If you crumple in a coughing heap and can barely move the next day - you're not well enough for the world.
I do this with flue and bronchitis. It's a reasonable standard. If wiping all the counters and cabinet handles in my kitchen wears me out, I'm not ready to deal with walking and talking and driving.

That seems like a good measure. It's probable I'm not quite there yet: yesterday I helped change the sheets and felt wiped out, and today I spent about twenty minutes outside with the dog and took a nap as soon as I got back.
Unfortunately, the fatigue seems to be a lingering symptom for a lot of people, so I may not be able to fully recover before heading back to work. I hope I don't faceplant on my keyboard.
