Summary:
Settling into his new home on Destiny Islands isn't going quite as smoothly as Riku might have hoped. It's hard enough for a vampire to establish themselves in a new territory, even under the best of circumstances. Harder, when he discovers that apparently the islands have their own pair of monster hunters. Not to mention that the unknown creature in the shadows seems like an increasingly dangerous threat, especially as more and more humans disappear without a trace. When the disappearances turn to bodies with bite marks deliberately framing Riku for the killings, it seems like any hope of a peaceful existence in his new home is beyond his reach.

Two weeks ago I was still dealing with a lot of lingering Covid crud, and I just couldn't get this last chapter done. Fortunately, last week was a bit better (even though I still struggled with the whole "ending" thing) but finally this fic is done! I'm very happy it's completed! It got longer than I'd expected, and while it doesn't feel perfect, I'm still pleased with it as a whole.

Other exciting writing news: I was asked to join an upcoming zine as their invited writer! It'll be a Kingdom Hearts zine, focused on the friendship between the "Destiny Trio" (Riku, Sora, and Kairi.) While I tend to write ship-focused fics about them, most of my stuff leans hard on the friendship aspect, so I think I'll be fine writing something that falls onto the gen side of the line.

It's really flattering that a handful of people looked at my work and liked it well enough to want to specifically invite me to be involved in their project. (Even when they had to hunt me down! I haven't been on Discord in weeks, so I completely missed their message to me, but one of the mods sent me a PM on Tumblr.)

Applications for contributors will be opening in August, with completion of the zine slated for early 2023. Some other stuff is a bit TBD: length of the fic I'll be writing, whether I'll be completing it on the same timeline as they're aiming for with other contributors, and things like that.

But I am genuinely very excited, and think it'll be a fun project to work on. My fandom existence tends to be a pretty solitary "I write a thing and fling it up on AO3 and that's all" thing, so I'm looking forward to this.

On the less exciting personal front: my dad tested positive for Covid. :( He held off on driving back to AZ because he wasn't feeling well... He'd been testing consistently negative... until yesterday. So he's still staying at his friend's house. I hope he recovers quickly, and I'm sorry he's not able to do it at home in his own bed.
Worst "working vacation" experience ever.
