Friday: Solar Fake, eHpH, and Faces Under the Mirror
Friday night we had another show to go to!

Originally the first opener was going to be Voight, but they were sick. So our friend Jake, as Faces Under the Mirror, got to fill in for them. So that was cool - we saw him open at the Voicecoil CD release a while back, but it's always nice to get to see him.

Jake!

And Solar Fake!
This was the same venue we saw Solar Fake at about six months ago. (And weird for them to be here again so soon - they expressed some surprise at it too, ha. They're from Germany, so it's not the quickest of jaunts to come over here to tour.)
HQ is not my favorite venue, in part because it feels more like a bar than anything else, and I think I complained about it before. It's grown on me, though. The sound system is decent, and it's good to have a smaller-type venue like that. Too many of the bigger clubs and venues seem reluctant (especially post-Covid [and to be clear, I know we are very current-Covid still, but I mean post-reopening]) to book nights or shows that cater to niche crowds, when they could aim for a bigger crowd with something with more mainstream appeal.
The doors for this show were surprisingly late - not until 8:00 - which was surprisingly nice for a worknight. I was able to leave a bit early, and we had time to eat dinner and get changed before heading down.
We did some mild pre-gaming after finding parking and then headed in.
We got to see PJ (Mark's girlfriend.) She's had a lot of health stuff she's been dealing with, mostly with very few answers, but it means she's mostly in too much pain to come out. Solar Fake is one of her favorite groups though, so she wanted to come out. Unfortunately, she wound up having to leave early because the pain got too bad. :/
Jake was the first opener! I haven't ever heard Voight, and I hope the sick crud resolves quickly for them, but I was still glad Jake got to step in! He played some stuff that's newer to his live sets, so that was cool too.

Another one of Jake. :)
The second opener was eHpH (pronounced "eff"). They're also a Denver local band, but I hadn't heard them before! They were pretty good, though more... hmm, "horror electronica"? than would be my usual choice.

eHpH
Solar Fake was, of course, excellent. Always a fun and energetic show, and I do really like them. (And I didn't wind up with heat stroke at the end of the show this time, always a plus.)

Sven! One of the best pictures I got for the night.

But award for most flattering photo of the evening goes to...
We headed home pretty immediately after. With the show starting so late, it was after midnight already, and we were pretty tired. I semi-miss the days of hanging out and mingling post-show, but sometimes the tired-sleepy wins.
It was also supposed to start snowing, so we wanted to beat the weather. We were half-successful on that count! We noted that it wasn't snowing at all when we left, and that it was still perfectly clear. About halfway home it was a bit hazy, and there were a few small, icy flakes falling. By the time we actually reached our apartment it was near blizzard conditions! But at least we weren't driving in it for too long.
