Matthews/Winters Park - the creek
Today we had a hard time getting going. I annoyingly woke up at about 4:30 and struggled to get back to sleep. When I finally did, I woke up again at around 7:45. Alex, on the other hand, didn't really sleep well, but really struggled to get up.
It led to that sort of frustrating morning where I kept hoping we were about to go do stuff, so I didn't want to get involved with doing anything *else*, yet the "waiting" dragged on for hours. (A frustrating ADHD symptom for me is the struggle I have with doing something if I know there's something else I have to do later.)
Today *was* extremely warm - I don't think it hit 100, but it was in the upper 90s. So naturally, we finally got it together enough to go do things during the absolute hottest part of the day!
But we did go down to Matthews/Winters park - a county park that has a creek that doesn't require much walking to get to. (The park itself has a pretty nice trail - one that usually wipes me out because of a pretty serious incline, but that leads up to a tiny cemetery, then back downhill in a loop. That trail would probably be slightly more than I'd want to do before I've gotten my endurance up a bit, and is definitely more than Cy could handle. Might be pushing Bella with her bad knees, too.)
But today was no hiking - just sitting by the creek where the dogs could wade and stay cool.
Unfortunately the creek area has been cut about in half, with a good portion of it blocked by signs saying the rest is closed off for ecological regeneration. Bummer, but understandable.

Cy found a stick!

A lovely magpie.

Pitbulls of the creek.

A very nice swallowtail.

Bella wading. She was a bit... perturbed by places where she could see the water moving.

Thirsty magpie.

This mushroom was huge!

And tiny spider friend of the day.
And not from Matthews/Winters, but from another stop on the way home:

An ambush bug that caught a fly!
Alex isn't feeling real well - he's had a lot of fluid in one ear for a couple days, and just generally doesn't feel good. Great timing!
So all four of us took a nap when we got home. I think Alex got the least napping in, unfortunately.

A stream sounds good in the heat.

And yes, the stream was very nice in the heat!

I feel the same way! I have an appointment one day, no way can I make ~another appointment for the same day!! *g* (Though I blame my undiagnosed possible autism for that.)
Pretty photos! I chuckled at Bella distrusting the moving water bits.
Naps are important! I didn't need one yesterday, but I had to take one Sunday morning after I'd been up for just a few hours. I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Bella was *very* suspicious of the moving water, haha. She'd step toward it, and jump back like it was gonna bite her... very silly.
The nap was kind of delightful. I think it helped me catch up on some sleep debt I'd accrued.

But yes, Bella was very silly about the water. She started being willing to wade in on her own, which is a bit of an improvement (she's prissy about it sometimes), but then she acted like she thought the moving water would jump up and bite her, lol.
Cy had a good time! It's nice to have something he can do that doesn't wear him out too much.
I adore magpies, and I hate that a lot of people consider them a pest.
I'm excited for you to get somewhere with both corvids and sea birds!

wow that mushroom is ginormous!

The mushroom was really impressive! And such a dramatic shape.
