Matthews/Winters Park - the creek
Today we had a hard time getting going. I annoyingly woke up at about 4:30 and struggled to get back to sleep. When I finally did, I woke up again at around 7:45. Alex, on the other hand, didn't really sleep well, but really struggled to get up.
It led to that sort of frustrating morning where I kept hoping we were about to go do stuff, so I didn't want to get involved with doing anything *else*, yet the "waiting" dragged on for hours. (A frustrating ADHD symptom for me is the struggle I have with doing something if I know there's something else I have to do later.)
Today *was* extremely warm - I don't think it hit 100, but it was in the upper 90s. So naturally, we finally got it together enough to go do things during the absolute hottest part of the day!
But we did go down to Matthews/Winters park - a county park that has a creek that doesn't require much walking to get to. (The park itself has a pretty nice trail - one that usually wipes me out because of a pretty serious incline, but that leads up to a tiny cemetery, then back downhill in a loop. That trail would probably be slightly more than I'd want to do before I've gotten my endurance up a bit, and is definitely more than Cy could handle. Might be pushing Bella with her bad knees, too.)
But today was no hiking - just sitting by the creek where the dogs could wade and stay cool.
Unfortunately the creek area has been cut about in half, with a good portion of it blocked by signs saying the rest is closed off for ecological regeneration. Bummer, but understandable.

Cy found a stick!

A lovely magpie.

Pitbulls of the creek.

A very nice swallowtail.

Bella wading. She was a bit... perturbed by places where she could see the water moving.

Thirsty magpie.

This mushroom was huge!

And tiny spider friend of the day.
And not from Matthews/Winters, but from another stop on the way home:

An ambush bug that caught a fly!
Alex isn't feeling real well - he's had a lot of fluid in one ear for a couple days, and just generally doesn't feel good. Great timing!
So all four of us took a nap when we got home. I think Alex got the least napping in, unfortunately.

The mushroom was really impressive! And such a dramatic shape.
