~Work Drama~

As predicted, Alex's Covid test came back negative. I really didn't think it was Covid, but he was worried, so I'm glad he feels better about that. He still feels sick, but it probably is just a cold. Still a bummer, but a less worrisome one.

I slept like garbage last night, assuming garbage does not sleep well. I woke up around two or three in the morning, and then every time I started to doze back off, Cy would start bothering me. He may have wanted to go out, but really he mostly was acting bored and like he wanted attention. I was ready to either lock him in the bathroom, or lock myself in to try and get some uninterrupted sleep, ugh. I should probably have just gotten up and done something, but I didn't.

Today was full of work drama. My manager was called in to corporate to be written up/have a "documented meeting". She found out about it last week, because one of the support staff from a different center quit, and gave feedback basically saying that our manager was mean to her. And like... she can be pretty blunt or direct when something is wrong and needs fixing, but there were some MAJOR issues that this other person caused (which I may have bitched about already), so it was pretty justified.
And honestly... she's a pretty good manager imo. She has high standards, but she also does a lot to support the people she manages. Last week when she found out about the impending meeting, she planned to give her two weeks at the meeting, because she's (justifiably) upset about it. Not that the other person complained, or that they had feedback or criticism for her. But just that it wasn't an open conversation with her. This person, who quit, who had several ongoing issues that the corporate office was made aware of, who basically just didn't want to be managed had her word taken as utter truth, with no attempts made to determine if there was merit or not. And weighed against HOW MUCH my manager is responsible for, she was pretty angry. (She manages four centers, which means four sets of availability, four location fleets, four payrolls, four class schedules, etc., as well as at least two company-wide systems that would otherwise fall apart. We also get consistently high reviews from students and parents and tbh do a good damn job.)
By this week, she'd cooled to asking for a demotion to only managing one location, as opposed to quitting entirely.
And then today, when she did that, they backpedaled HARD, and basically said "let's pretend this never happened." Lol. I'm glad she stood up for herself.

Hi. I was clicking around dW and landed here. I saw your profile says to just add, but I thought I'd say hello. Good to hear you're vaxxed even if you had a scare. Too many people around me aren't bothering to get fully vaxxed (actually saw an anti-vax protest this week with the usual "it's changing people's DNA" anti-science, the world is flat, Elvis is still alive preaching). Anyway - hi.

I've added you as well.

I have to say, I'm highly disappointed in the COVID vaccine. All the anti-vaxxers promised it would alter my DNA. I'm about 3-months post-vaccination and I thought for sure I'd be an X-Men by now!

When I got my 2nd dose, I started to joke with the (student) nurse - "I read on the Internet..." and I could tell she was like "uh oh...". Luckily she picked up on the sarcasm immediately when I asked if I could pick which superpower I'd develop from the mutated DNA. Yeah, I'm that guy.

I work in telecom/infosec. Years ago, when I still did physical installs, I had a secretary call my supervisor and complain that we put a wireless access point in her office and it would give her cancer and prevent her from having children (I'm pretty sure she was in her late 50's/early 60's).

So, when they start with "some people are saying...", is "some" defined and "me/I"?

I'm glad the text came back negative!

Good for your boss! I'm glad they rethought their need for a meeting, but that must've been very frustrating and hurtful for her.

Glad he doesn't have Covid! Still sucks to be sick, though.

Wow, that's pretty bad as far as upper-management negligence goes. They know how important your manager is but they still treated her like they don't, ugh. X( I suppose she knew that they knew, which must have pissed her off even more. Glad it worked out in the end, though I wonder if it's worth sticking around given the circumstances. (It's great that she's there to do the work that needs to be done, but it also seems like she's not being valued enough, and that sucks.)

Clingy doggo is clingy. Too bad about your sleep, though, that must've been hard. ^^;;

I can imagine what a relief it must be to get a negative COVID result. All the same, still need to keep up precautions just in case, especially if everyone else isn't. :(
