Off to Austin!
Jan. 4th, 2019 08:41 amI'm still somewhat in awe that my younger sibling works for a company that pays for the entire company to go out of state for a weekend for a holiday party! And even more so that they pay for their staff and a plus one for each of them. And I'm Taylor's +1. :D
I know Taylor was initially pretty shocked, too... they described it as "Well, someone asked if I had any ideas for where we should go for our holiday party... so I was thinking of the sort of stuff we've done at previous jobs. Dave and Busters? Bowling? And then the next time someone mentioned it, they told me they'd narrowed it down to either Vegas or Austin."
Taylor isn't the absolute best at sharing information, haha, apparently our mom didn't even know about the trip until the tickets had already been bought, and the first I heard about anything relating to an itinerary for once we're there came yesterday in an off-hand comment, so I'm sort of going in blind. Got everything packed in a single carry-on, we leave this afternoon and return on Monday night.
I've never been to Austin! I've driven through El Paso a couple of times on my way from one part of New Mexico to another, but never really been to Texas. I'm excited to go, and everyone I've mentioned the trip to has raved about how great Austin is. I really hope there's a chance for me to meet up with
scarlipswolfwife at some point. As she pointed out, we've been friends online for over a decade, so if we had a chance to actually MEET that would be pretty rad! :D
For the time being, I'm sitting in a Starbucks a couple blocks from Taylor's office, since they had to still do a half-day of work before we head to the airport. Maybe I'll even manage to get a couple hours of writing in before 12:30 when we're hoping to leave.
I am also very excited that I won't be at work for another whole week! I got to use PTO for today-Monday, and Tuesday/Wednesday are my usual days off, so I worked yesterday and won't be back in until next Thursday! And yesterday our entire online system went down and still wasn't fixed by the time I left, so I am so glad that isn't my problem for the next week!
