mistressofmuses: The characters Sora, Riku, and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts lay together on a beach. (Destiny Trio)
Better day for writing. Over 1600 words on All Strange Wonders, which makes me pretty happy.

Alex was listening to news stuff all day, which was mostly just rehashing all the shit from yesterday, with the few developments that happened today. It's all just... paralyzingly horrifying, honestly.

But it was an easy day otherwise: day off work, and very few errands. I wrote, read some stuff on here, and just sort of took it easy, which was nice. Even with the holidays having been pretty recent, I feel like it's the first "don't have to do anything" day I've had in a pretty long while. The holidays all happened on my usual days off anyway, and while I did take a long weekend at Christmas, it was all spent baking, lol. And usually on my days off, Alex has a riding lesson, and I'll go along, which means at least 5 or so hours out of the day once it's all said and done.

With these 1600 words, I hit the end of chapter 18. I think I have just one more to go! Unfortunately, I may have invented myself a new subplot. One of the sources for this fic has a LOT of subplots going on, which all come together very satisfyingly at the conclusion. (The fic is a Kingdom Hearts/Howl's Moving Castle [book] fusion, don't make fun of me, lol.) But the HMC book has a TON of subplots, which I was trying to make a conscious effort NOT to incorporate into my fic, a) for simplicity's sake, and b) because the subplots are so specifically tied into the story, they wouldn't fit unless I made this a very one-to-one "find and replace" type fusion, which isn't what I'm doing. Yet somehow, I keep finding extra subplots that are different from the canon ones that I could work in. >:/

I'm actually excited for the rewrite process on this fic, in part because I have discovered a lot of things I intend to change. A long time ago, I read a quote about writing additional drafts of a work. My brain really wants to attribute it to Tanith Lee, but I don't know that that's correct. But the quote was something to the effect of the revision process being the best part, because the rough draft has given you all the pieces, and revising is getting to put the puzzle together. I like that perspective.

I've got kind of a mild headache, and my spine still hurts, but I'm hoping to get a bit more reading in before calling it a night.
