Jan. 30th, 2021 08:32 pmYuck. Monday I have to go to our Aurora office instead of my usual one. It's SIGNIFICANTLY farther, turning a 15 minute commute into one approaching an hour in traffic. (Almost worse for Alex; we have one vehicle and I still hate driving, so for him it's an hour to get me there, an hour home, an hour to pick me up, an hour home. So I know he's not thrilled that he's got FOUR HOURS of commute for the day.)
I'm going down there because basically everyone who works there is sick. The manager has Covid, and it sounds like may be in the hospital? I hope she's home now, but it sounds like it's not going well, either way. The support staff called out today for the whole week, which sounds like she at least suspects it might be Covid, or is at least having to go get tested and wait out incubation periods. And the lead instructor just got back from having Covid, and they have other instructors who've been out pending negative tests...
So... that's not a great feeling either. Like, I rationally know that there's no reason to really worry that being in the same office as people who caught it means I'll catch it, but just like... on a psychological level it feels like "oh, everyone we've had here is sick? YOU'RE NEXT."
It's just another level of having to treat my own health like it's expendable, because I can't afford not to. Maybe this risk isn't actually any greater than every other day, and maybe it's coincidental that so many people at this office have gotten Covid, but I still feel like I'm just a future casualty.
Speaking of Covid, my step mom and my dad have both tested negative, now. Her bout of it never got beyond mild-moderate severity, and it seems like my dad somehow managed not to get it at all. So that part is good at least!
