Minor tweaks to travel plans
Mar. 23rd, 2021 10:40 pmThe original plan was to leave my mom's house around 9:00. We figure it's roughly a 10 hour drive, and that would get us there in the evening, with plenty of time to check into our hotel and rest up so we could go see family the next day.
Unfortunately, the weather is not being terribly kind. There are a ton of storm warnings up and down the front range (and it snowed pretty hard for a bit this afternoon/evening, though it stopped a few hours ago.) The main concern is that Raton Pass (the usual pass from CO to NM) might be shitty. Soooo out of the fear that we'll either have to go slow, wait some weather out, or reroute around it, my mom wants to leave closer to 6:00.
And that meant that I needed to spend the night at her house. Which is fine, but naturally I'd been planning on kind of leisurely packing my stuff over the course of the evening, and sleeping in my own bed, and then probably grabbing coffee with Alex in the morning before taking off.
Instead, I had to rush home after work, do stuff like put laundry away so that it wouldn't just sit in a pile for the next five days, get all my shit packed, and then get to my mom's house.
This is reasonably low-stakes - it's five days, and I'm not in a position where I couldn't borrow or buy something if I forgot it. But still, I HATE having to pack in a hurry. Maybe it's kind of PTSD from when we were living out of the car and in motels a few nights a week, and the memory of having to grab everything and get out before checkout. Or maybe it's just that when I'm rushed I forget things, or pack things that don't matter, or bring things but can't remember which pocket of my bag I put them in, or whatever. Ugh
But hopefully I didn't actually forget anything!
I'll probably be scarce around DW for a few days, though I'm not sure. I'm sure our hotel will have wifi, and writing entries is cathartic, so maybe I won't break my daily streak just yet.
Hope everyone has a good several days!
