Jun. 5th, 2021 07:43 pmHad to train a new person today. Typically I don't mind training days too much - it's a lot of talking and always kills my voice and my throat, but typically it means that's what I can focus on for the day. But today and tomorrow I'm the only one in the office, and weekends are leanly staffed between all the offices as it is, so I have to try and do training while also doing all my usual shit.
The problem largely being that what I'm training on isn't really what I'm *doing* as my job. I'm the one who trains people on the background knowledge needed to do the office stuff (the state regulations, our policies, how the computer system works, etc.) So it's not even "train by doing", because she doesn't yet know enough to follow what I'm doing.
It wasn't really as bad as I'd worried, because up until the last hour or so, it was pretty mellow. Tomorrow we do it again, so hopefully I can finish the rest of the system training, and have her prepared for the rest.
And then thankfully I'll be at my weekend.
Beyond picking my summary for Unconventional Courtship I haven't gotten anything done besides some idle thinking about scenes. Gonna try to get it outlined tonight, or at least started.
I've taken it easy on the writing a few too many days lately. (Realistically, I did have to spend at least the one full evening just picking the summary, but other than that, I still haven't gotten much done this week.)
I'm struggling a bit with the new schedule, despite it not really being much different. But for the purposes of habit tracking and such, I measure a traditional week, Sunday through Saturday. I've been used to having my "weekend" fall toward the end of that week, which gives me a chance to catch up on things that I haven't completed. But now with my weekend being at the beginning, Mon/Tues, now if I don't get things done those days, then I don't really have a real chance to do it later in the week.
I'm sure I'll adjust, but it's been mildly dismaying this week.
