mistressofmuses: A smiling white dandelion seedhead says "blow me," after which the seeds are scattered. (blow me)
It started with a rock getting kicked up on the highway on the way to work, and cracking our windshield. The crack spread on Alex's drive back home, so it's firmly in "replace" not "repair" territory. That's $400+ that we really don't have. :/ I'm HOPING it will hold for a while, since it isn't obscuring vision (yet), but gotta fix it before it gets to that point.

I got into work and checked my phone to find multiple work group texts, because one of the cars had a chunk of metal sticking out of the tire, so a driver had to go up to a different center to get a backup car. Then I discovered that both those vehicles were spoken for tomorrow, which started a whole new "where ELSE can we have someone go at ass-o-clock tomorrow morning to pick up a car" conversation. It's sorted, but in a way that inconveniences everyone, lol.

Then the phones were just fucking outrageous all morning, like there was genuinely no one answering except for me. (An exaggeration, but maybe not MUCH of one.) Which also extended to online support calls, except that I couldn't even return any of those, because there were so many inbound calls I couldn't make an outgoing call.

Someone from another center got a misdirected online support call and asked me to call them. I was knee-deep in students testing and having to grade and process them, but I called... and then the fix script wouldn't work. I escalated, and it wound up having to go to the developer to fix, which was a pain in the ass. Fortunately the family was nice, even though they probably had to wait a good three hours for what SHOULD have been a five-minute fix.

The second largest center, and possibly one of very few with someone in today, had their internet and phones down all day, so the girl working was texting me to do stuff for her all day. Which was fine, and were mostly reasonable requests, but was just that much extra Stuff that I had to try and do.

There was one thing that was less reasonable... basically she wanted me to write and send an email being the bad guy to "remind some coworkers of policy." There's a hard and fast never-ever rule on what we're allowed to do that has ONE exception. These exceptions are paired with an official letter that we have to check to make sure they are a genuine exception. Someone showed up at her center, with said letter... but she'd never seen one before, and had no internet to check the official rule, so she turned him away. Except... it was the correct thing, which I was able to verify in the state system. She really was doing what she thought was right, but it was still a mess. Wound up okay - she got the man rescheduled thanks to one of the drivers staying late, but...

Basically the whole day was just stupid. It did calm down on the second half, which was good, but ugh. Three more weeks, and I get a damn break.
