Extra bad snow today. As anticipated, but of course never with any preparation work done.
All the evening appointments at the office cancelled, because the switch from "the roads are wet but pretty okay" to "oh no, this is not good at all" was extremely sudden.
I got permission to leave work a half hour early (5:30)... but Alex couldn't even get out of our neighborhood. Multiple side roads were closed by cars that had spun out and blocked traffic, the main road may have had an accident or something, because traffic was backed up super far.
After another close call where a truck lost traction and veered into his lane and almost caused a head-on collision, he just went home.
I tried for about a half hour to get an Uber, but there weren't any drivers (or at least none that accepted my trip. The app kept claiming there were multiple drivers available in the area, but then would give me the "Sorry we couldn't find a driver! Try again soon!" message.)
Finally I was able to get Lyft to let me schedule a ride for 7:00, even though my experience with scheduled rides has often been that it gets cancelled right at pick-up time. But I got a driver! And she didn't cancel! Her car was much more suited to the snow, and we even made it from my office to my apartment in pretty much the same amount of time it usually takes, so I'm very grateful for that.
But still... it's like, morally insulting to have to pay $50 just to get home from work.
And so I wasn't home until after 7:30, at which point I was ready to eat my own arm, probably. Now I've at least had food, but am beyond ready to go to bed. So that might be what I do. Catch up on internet things and writing and such are going to be tomorrow things, because ugh.
A little worried about tomorrow - the snow is supposed to continue for a good portion of the night, and I don't know if the roads will be any better tomorrow morning. I really don't want to pay to get to work, especially when I HAVE to get there by a certain time and can't just wait for a driver.

But Alex finally got his booster shot! His arm hurts, and he's had a terrible headache (which I think may be the weather), but is so far otherwise feeling okay. We'll see how tomorrow goes on that front, too.
