Updated Writing Goals/Calendar: June 2022
Jun. 1st, 2022 06:13 pmI'm still sick and hate everything. BUT IT'S A NEW MONTH! So time to reflect on/update my writing goals.
January - March
Completed two drafts of my WIP "Connections of the Heart", and began posting the new chapters.
April
Completed most of the rough draft of "Island Territory", though not the whole thing.
And how did May go?
May
10 - finish rough draft of IT Chapter 4 - Completed (but pretty rough) on May 14, 4 days late
17 - finish 2nd draft of IT Chapter 2 - Completed on May 19, 2 days late
24 - finish 2nd draft of IT Chapter 3 - Completed on May 27, 3 days late
24 - post Chapter 2 of IT - Done!
31 - finish 2nd draft of IT Chapter 4 - maybe done June 01*, 1 day late
31 - post Chapter 3 of IT - Done!
I struggled a little bit in May, but not too terribly. Particularly early in the month, when I was housesitting for my mom, I had a hard time sticking to my usual writing schedule. It got a little better as the month went on, but there were a couple more days where I was busy or tired and didn't get much/anything done. Still, the goals feel like they were fairly reasonable, and I did stick mostly on target...
*But uh... back in April I had the problem that the fic got longer than expected, which kept me from getting done with the rough draft when I'd hoped to. Well, that problem didn't get better. It's *still* longer than I'd planned, and even the (in places, very) rough draft of chapter 4 was almost twice as long as the other chapters.
As I was working on draft 2 today, I realized that right about 5000 words into it... would a pretty good chapter break. And that once I finish fixing up the parts that were pretty rough, the second half of the chapter will probably be close to that length, too.
So I think that this is going to be five chapters instead of four. That's okay... it's not the first time I've changed a chapter count (though typically I haven't done so this close to the end of a fic.)
Though I really do want a break between finishing this fic and starting to post the next, so I'll probably not start posting that one until July.
Newly revised goals:
June
07 - finish draft 2 of Chapter 5 of IT (sooner if possible)
07 - post Chapter 4 of IT
14 - post Chapter 5 of IT
Between June 14 - July 1: reread All Strange Wonders and make sure I'm happy with it for posting.
*21 - make a moodboard/cover for ASW
July
Camp NaNo - work on rewrite of Outbreak - 30k for the month goal?
05 - post Chapter 1 of ASW
19 - post Chapter 2 of ASW
August
Continue rewriting Outbreak, with the intent to be done by the end of the month (hopefully sooner).
02 - post Chapter 3 of ASW
16 - post Chapter 4 of ASW
30 - post Chapter 5 of ASW
I'm not going to create a plan for September and beyond yet... we'll see how it goes with Outbreak, and whether it feels plausible for me to finish it by the end of August, or whether it'll continue into September.
I'm also still undecided on what to do after that. Maybe still alternating between the Worldhopping Fairytale Monstrosity and other projects. We'll see how I feel as I get closer to that point!
