Day 2 of the 'vid
Jun. 4th, 2022 08:11 pmSpoke too soon about the sense of smell and taste. I realized late last night that things smelled kind of faint, and by today my sense of smell (and therefore taste) is pretty much completely gone. ;_; I get the cold of menthol from dayquil or gum, and the heat of something spicy, and very vague hints of sour or salty, but that's about it. It's a bizarre lack of sensation! I don't think about relying on smell all that much, but lacking it is very strange. And not being able to taste things is very weird, too, because I know how things *should* taste, and there's just... nothing.
(On the "bright side", that does lead me to believe the Covid infection IS new, and that I didn't have it for the last week, not realizing I was spreading it. But that means I DO have some sort of co-infection, which isn't fun.)
Otherwise... still relatively mild intermittently productive cough, moderately bad congestion and sinus headache, and pretty bad fatigue. I spent almost the entire day in bed, but in a frustrating not-really-sleeping, not-quite-awake state. And just kinda plain don't feel good - mildly achey, brain-fogged, just feeling lousy.
There are a few pharmacies in our area that participate in the Test-to-Treat program... but due to the current surge, none of them had any of the antivirals currently available, and at least one place was strongly asking people not to try and get them unless they were at increased risk. So that sounds like a no-go, but at least for now the symptoms are pretty much all just "wow this sucks" and not anything worse.
I am not enjoying the feeling of being a plague rat. I feel like a walking contagion, even in the apartment, because I feel like it's just a matter of time before Alex has it too. :/
I texted the on-call manager this morning to let her know I wouldn't be in. My manager finally replied to me after that, letting me know that the on-call manager was trying to find someone to cover for me. I think he wound up having going in to do the sort of bare minimum to keep things from falling apart. Sounds like it may have fallen apart anyway, but... not my problem for the moment.
Definitely rating the Covid experience a 1 star out of 5 for the moment. Do not recommend.
Keep trying not to get it.
