Today went fairly well with Cy and New Dog.

One minor snap from her over a treat that she was ignoring and that Cy wandered over to express interest in.

She slept completely through the night - we set up the thicker memory foam dog bed, with the thinner memory foam pad on top of it, plus gave her a blanket. Alex said he woke up at about four in the morning, and she was still under the blanket, so she'd barely moved. When we actually got up she had gotten out from under the blanket, but was still on the dog bed.

She's doing mildly better with the elevator - she had to be dragged on yesterday night and this morning, while this evening she walked on reluctantly. It's progress!

She peed outside this morning after Alex dropped me off at work, but refused to do so this evening. Then she peed on the rug in the kitchen after dinner, even though that was less than an hour after we'd been outside. Alex took her out and she did her #2. So... housetraining is still a ??? She seems like she'd rather go outside, but if she isn't outside when she has to go, she gives no indication that she needs to.

Alex thinks someone has worked with her at least somewhat before - she's getting better at "sit" (though not as much for me - maybe it's because I was sitting on the floor with her rather than standing. Standing has been Very Very Bad for the last several days for whatever my pinched nerve is.) She's also sort of starting to understand giving him a paw to shake. She's brought a toy to Alex and dropped it in front of him, and brought it back after he tossed it for her. She also dropped a toy for me this morning with extremely minor pressure on her jaw and a spoken command, and for Alex dropped a toy with a sterner command.

But whatever training she may have had was very hit or miss.

I still wonder what her deal was. She really is VERY small - I wonder if she was a runt, and if that's why she has some resource-guarding issues. I also wonder if she was abandoned somewhere because she was hurt, or if she was hurt somewhere on the street after being lost/abandoned. Her spay happened at the shelter, but it doesn't look like she's had puppies before or anything.

It's clear that the CCL injury does hurt her, which makes me sad. She's still very energetic and wants to do things, but it clearly starts hurting pretty quickly. We might try a brace, which is supposed to help support the joint and help with movement.

We also want to get her a crate. Cy has the bed as "personal space", even as he shares it with us, but her having her own spot to retreat to would probably be good. Plus it would give her somewhere to be if we can't take her with us, without worrying about her and Cy getting into it. (I know Alex is trying to decide what to do about his physical therapy tomorrow while I'm at work.)
