Writing Goals/Calendar: June 2023
Jun. 7th, 2023 10:22 pmNot quite the start of the month, but.
Recap of the year so far:
January - April:
- finished writing a fic for a zine
- finished posting All Strange Wonders (Kingdom Hearts Destiny Trio, Howl's Moving Castle AU)
- continued posting Outbreak (Silent Hill fic about a supernatural illness)
- began a re-outline of a self-indulgent fic
And how did May go?
Eh? *tilting hand from side to side*
May goals were:
- By May 15: finish my outline for Worldhopping Fairytale Monstrosity (having failed to finish doing so in April for Camp NaNo)
I succeeded at this one! I did an admittedly rough outline, and really had to push over the last few days, but I completed that rough outline, which wound up being between 13k and 14k words.
- By May 15: finish reading Finch
I did NOT succeed at this one. I wound up finishing it on May 27th, so significantly later than intended. (Though I did finish it, and I did really enjoy it!)
- May 16: post chapter 17 of Outbreak (The final chapter.)
Done and posted!
- By May 30: reread Sparrow Hill Road (The first needed canon refresh for a planned fic.)
Definitely not. I just started my reread on June 3rd.
So here are my upcoming goals for myself:
June
By June 20 - Finish rereading Sparrow Hill Road, taking notes as I go.
Begin a relisten to Alice Isn't Dead, also taking notes. This is canon refresh #2 for that planned fic. I want to do this after my reread is completed, so as to not accidentally mingle vibes before I'm trying to write them. The podcast is 30 episodes, so aiming for one per day/the equivalent thereof should take roughly a month.
[I've made peace with the fact that I want this to be a summer fic (for the spooky road trip vibes), but will have no chance of completing it over the summer. I get to do my canon refreshes during peak Weird Liminal Road Trip Season, then work on writing it, and then have something ready to share NEXT year for Weird Liminal Road Trip Season '24.]
If possible: begin working on the prompt list for AUgust, giving me something to actually *write*, while my main plans are taken up with canon refreshes.
July
Finish relistening to Alice Isn't Dead. The end date depends on when I've finished Sparrow Hill Road, since that will determine when I can start the relisten. But ideally, I'm hoping for mid-month. (If I do manage to make my goal, then by July 20th.)
Write the first draft of the Alice Isn't Dead x Sparrow Hill Road crossover. [This shouldn't be a long fic - only a few thousand words - so it feels silly to do so much prep work for something so short.]
If I've got the time or inclination, again, I'd like to work ahead on some AUgust prompts.
August
Participate in AUgust!
This is an annual challenge, where there are prompts given for each day, with each being a particular type of Alternate Universe prompt. I did it back in 2020, which I enjoyed. I wrote 31 fics in 31 days, and felt wonderfully accomplished! Some of the fics weren't that great, but some of them I'm still quite proud of.
This year, I'd like to get a head start on them, rather than actually trying to write a fic per day. (That was gratifying, but exhausting.) If I can manage to get 15 or 20 of the 31 prompts written before August, then I still have a few days to spend on each of the prompts, which allows for at least a probable revision pass. At the same time, that's still a quick enough clip to keep the sort of "just write it, you can't overthink it!" spirit that I think helped when I did it before.
This would also address the fact that my biggest "frustration" for this year is the fact that I will not have anything that I've completed and am able to share.
September
Unsure just yet... but possibly try to do a first draft of the terrible holiday romcom fic. Or at least a fairly complete outline and the beginnings of a draft.
